Hi I'm Brooke

I'm almost a college graduate. I love teaching. I love music. And I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I'm currently working on a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. I have a passion for learning and I hope to pass that on to the students I will some day teach. I believe that teaching is more than just a career. I also have a passion for music. I love how music can express the things that words cannot. I grew up in a family of 6 and music has brought us closer together. We gather around the piano and sing and play different instruments together.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because I've gained my own personal testimony of my Savior. I grew up in a Mormon family and in a Mormon community. At first it was easy to just "go with the flow" and get caught up in the "Mormon Culture". In junior high school I started hanging out with some members who were not always living the standards that I knew they were being taught on Sundays. It finally reached a point where I had to choose whether to continue doing the things they were doing or choose to do what I knew was right. I ended up losing some friends. It was at that point that I really questioned whether or not I actually knew that this Gospel was true. For me it happened very gradually and bit by bit as I prayed, read my scriptures, attended my meetings and sincerely sought answers I gained a testimony that this church really was God's church upon the earth today. Over the years bits and pieces have been added to my testimony. Serving a mission in the state of Washington really helped my testimony to grow. I had people questioning me, telling me I was brainwashed, yelling at me and cursing me for believing the things I do. Ironically the yelling and questioning only made my testimony stronger because I had to continue to seek answers.

How I live my faith

In my church I'm currently in charge of music for our sacrament meetings. Music is a huge part of the gospel because it can invite the Spirit to a congregation faster than anything else. I love singing and playing hymns. The hymns help me to remember my Savior and put me in a happier mood. When I'm having a bad day the quickest way to give me a boost is to listen to, sing or play a hymn. Being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints also involves much more than just going to church on Sunday. Every day I'm trying better my relationship with my Father in Heaven by praying, reading my scriptures and finding ways to serve those around me.
