Hi I'm Joseph

I was born and raised in Alaska. I love to hike in the mountains, and read. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love to hike and read. I grew up surrounded by mountains, and I love the way the the roads will frame the peaks as you turn a corner. I have spent a lot of time reading through the classics in literature. Some of the titles that I have read include "Les Miserables," "Frankenstein," and "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea." I also loved to participate in the Drama Club at my high school, and acted in several plays.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in the church, and was baptized at eight, but I did not truly become converted until I was almost 18. I had received a lead role in a play at my High School, and I had to memorize more lines than anyone else in the play. I have always had a minor stuttering problem, and it grows worse when I am nervous or exited. After I began to struggle with my part I began to pray inside my heart, and to ask the Lord for help. It began almost sarcastically, and I did not expect any help. Over the next few days, however, I began to notice that the words stayed in my mind, and I could get through the large monologues without stuttering. My prayers quickly became more heartfelt, and I could feel the Spirit working within me, "Bringing all things to my remembrance" (John 14:26) At this same time I also had a few friends bring gospel related questions to me, and refer their friends to me to answer their questions about the church. I have always had a good academic knowledge of church principles, but these questions forced me to rely upon my testimony, which was exceptionally weak at that point in time. As I answered their questions, however, I had to read through the scriptures, and study out the questions, which built my testimony. Also, as I prayed my way through the play, I received a knowledge that the Lord does love and care about me, and that he will answer my prayers in my moment of need. The combination of these events, and a few other seeming coincidences in my life brought my life back in line with what the Lord expected of me, and I quickly found my love for the gospel.

How I live my faith

I am preparing to serve a two year mission for the Church.
