Hi I'm Lesa

I'm a wife, a mother of 4, and grandmother. I was born in Maryland and raised most of my life in Florida. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I've been married to my husband for 29 years. We have 4 grown children and 2 granddaughters. I've worked for a college in admissions for the last year after being a stay-at-home mom for 26 years. I love my family and my job. I just applied to graduate school! I love to craft when I can and am currently finishing my first quilt. My husband and I are enjoying the empty nest but look forward to visits from our children and their families often. My youngest son is on a mission for the church in Brasil.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents were members of the Methodist church in my early youth but when I was 7 they stopped attending any church. Even at that young age I felt a spiritual emptiness when I wasn't attending church. At 8 I was fortunate to begin attending the LDS church with a friend of mine who lived down the street. Her family was very gracious and took me with them to church for many years. I attended the program for the children called Primary with my friend and later the youth programs including the early morning religious class called Seminary. When I was 14 I decided to make the formal commitment of baptism. My family did not join the church and has not joined but they have been supportive of my decision. At 22 I married my husband in the Washington DC temple. It was one of the most wonderful experiences of my life. We have 4 children and 2 grandchildren and they all remain active in the church which is a joy to me. I am a Mormon because I believe families can be forever. My testimony has grown during my 43 year association with the church. I know for myself through prayer that this gospel is true and that Joseph Smith was visited by Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. I believe that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is a restoration of Christ's original church found in the Old and New Testaments. This knowledge gives me peace and joy.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by trying to be an good example of the church to those around me. The gospel is the central part of my life. I live my faith through prayer, service, study, and worship. For the past 3 years I have worked with high school aged youth in our area. I coordinate the daily religious classes that are voluntarily attended by high school students early in the morning before they start their school day. Our area has about 130 such youth who attend 8 classes around the county. My work includes helping the teachers, training them, and visiting their classes. Each year we have a graduation ceremony for the seniors. This year 24 graduated the program. It is so rewarding to work with youth and those that teach youth. I joined the church at the age of these students and this educational program was a big part of my decision to join. I also conduct the music in our main Sunday meeting. Being active daily and weekly in the church increases my faith.
