Hi I'm Carmen

I am married and I am the mom of two wonderful boys/young men. I am a Cub Scout den leader. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am sealed to my best friend and we have been married for 23 years and sealed to each other and our two sons for 8 years. I work part-time teaching Elementary School PE. I love spending time with my family; we like watching movies or playing board games together. My husband and I built the house we live in, with a lot of help from family and friends. I love musical productions, and my one son and I participated in a production of Savior of the World - we LOVED it! I love music and enjoy singing.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon, because without this gospel I would not know true happiness. I have had many trials, challenges and heartbreak during my life (including miscarrying 4 babies). But with each challenge comes a building of my faith in Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. As I pray for their help, they give me the strength that I need; a strength I didn't think I could possibly have. My relationship with the Lord does not just consist of me asking for help for myself, but to help others in their trials, and most importantly, to give thanks for my many blessings. I know I am never alone in this world. I know that my Father in Heaven loves me and knows the desires of my heart. I also know that my brother, Jesus Christ suffered and atoned for my sins in the Garden of Gethsemane. Only He knows and understands how I feel in my darkest hours; this gives me great comfort. I was not active in the church for about 15 years of my adulthood, but I had the solid foundation I was taught growing up. I didn't realize what my life was missing until my oldest son asked about the church and and about being baptized at 8 1/2. We had the missionaries teach him the first three lessons, and then he was baptized. It was his sincere curiosity that brought my husband and I back to this glorious gospel. Once I came back to church, I knew that I had been missing the peace that comes from knowing the Lord through prayer, through serving others and seeing the examples and having the friendship of others. This church is true, I have NO doubt. I have lived without it and I live with it right now. My life is calm, even during trying times, because of the knowledge that I have of my Savior's love. This church is His church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day saints. It is based on His life, example and teachings. I am a better person for being a member of this church.

How I live my faith

I am currently serving as a Cub Scout den leader in my ward. I have served as the secretary and an advisor to young women ranging in age from 12-18. I have also taught 3 year olds, 8 year olds and worked with 18 month olds to 3 year olds in my ward. I sing in our church choir, we practice every Sunday after our church meetings. I have the wonderful opportunity of visiting three wonderful women each month; giving me the chance to get to know them better and become friends with them. As I visit with them, I find out what they need help with and I have the opportunity to offer my assistance to them. I support my husband, as he serves as a counselor in our ward bishopric; my oldest son, who is serving a mission; and my younger son, who is serving as a counselor in his 14-16 year old class at church.

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

As members of the church, we are encouraged to act as missionaries in all we do. To be great examples of helping everyone, member and non-member. We answer the questions that are asked of us regarding the church and its teachings; if we don't have the answer, we search for it. We are encouraged to invite everyone to come to church activities and meetings with us, and to join us for Family Home Evening. Doing all of these things, opens the door for members to act as missionaries and to share the gospel with those that don't know of its teachings yet. Show more Show less
