Hi I'm Austin Phillips

I love to sing. I love to laugh. I love to find the good in people. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am a high school graduate who loves to sing and act. I'm about to serve a mission in San Diego California and teach in American Sign Language. My hobbies include singing and playing guitar, as well as reading books that are brilliantly written, and yes this includes the Book of Mormon. I enjoy learning and studying about sciences and psychology.

Why I am a Mormon

I was actually born in the church but through out most of my life I always seemed to piggyback on my parents' testimony, while not ever building up my own testimony of the gospel for myself. by the time I was 14 I remember a talk given in sacrament meeting about how we should find our own testimony and find out, for ourselves, whether or not the Book of Mormon was true. After this talk I decided that maybe it was time for me to discover if this was the true church. So that night I sat down and started reading the book of Mormon and continued to read for probably the rest of the night. I then fell asleep and woke up the next morning and read the scriptures. This pattern continued for two weeks, until I decided that I should pray about it for a confirmation that this book was another testament of Jesus Christ. I prayed and sat and pondered about these questions and I felt the spirit telling me, this is another testament and that this is the true church. From this experience I gained my own personal testimony that I know the Book of Mormon is true and that Joseph Smith is a true prophet and that there is one on the earth today. I know that the Lord watches over me and his children and sent the Holy Ghost to comfort and guide us through our troubles and desires for all of us to discover the gospel for ourselves. This is what I know is true.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by listening to the spirit and by helping others in the ward when they need service or just a helping hand. In my ward I was called to be a family history consultant, my job is to help others with family history work, and help them to take names to the temple or to just discover who their ancestors are. Another way I try to live my faith is by talking to other young men who are considering going on a mission and talking to them about why they should and how their service could not just bless their lives, but also the lives they can teach and bring to the gospel.

How can I know Mormonism is true?

Austin Phillips
Read the book of Mormon and before you read pray to God to have the spirit with you. Then when you are finished with studying from the book of Mormon pray to God again and ask for understanding to know what you are learning is true. Then ponder the questions you have and the Holy ghost will give you an understanding that it is true. Show more Show less

What is the Atonement of Jesus Christ? Why was it necessary for Jesus Christ to sacrifice His life?

Austin Phillips
The atonement is when Christ took upon himself the sins of the world and then he died on the cross and three days later was resurrected. That is the atonement and this shows us that Christ not only overcame spiritual death but physical death as well by being resurrected. The atonement was absolutely necessary because if Christ, himself being the only perfect person that ever lived, had not done this then we would not be able to repent and be forgiven of our sins. Thanks to Jesus Christ we can be forgiven and return to live with our Heavenly Father again. Show more Show less
