Hi I'm Iael Alvez

I'm an average individual, a simple girl; who has come to know of the eternal truths. I love being a Mormon!

About Me

My roots are firm and my blood runs deep to the beautiful and natural land of Uruguay. My ancestry and culture make up most of who I am. It is engraved in me. Along with the hard headedness and Uruguayan pride. I enjoy eating "asado" and gathering with friends at any time of the day. I love to sit with family and friends and discuss life, while drinking mate. And, of course, I can watch soccer while screaming for goals and losses. I am deeply rooted to my country and culture. I am social by nature, outgoing and talkative. I have been known to have some "attitude" - but to me it's just personality. I am straight-forward, and speak my mind, but I always respect others and their point of views. I love to dance (Salsa & Bachata), I love to eat and I love to experience new cultures. The topic of religion intrigues me, therefore, I love to study religions. I am very family oriented and am a devoted friend. I like to do all I can to make sure that the people around me are happy and motivated. I do my best to I lend a hand to everyone I can, because for me being a disciple of Christ means providing service to others. I am truly devoted to my faith; to my God and Savior. Truth of the matter is, the least important thing to me is money, fashion, or whatever the world considers "cool" or "in". The most important thing to me in my life is my relationship with my Heavenly Father and my Savior, Jesus Christ.

Why I am a Mormon

I was taught and raised within the walls of the everlasting gospel - I was given the truth from a young age, however, that does not mean that coming to the knowledge and understanding of the truth came easily or naturally. Actually, quite the opposite. The mysteries of God amaze me. How He works will forever astound me. At the age of 16, I was hospitalized and diagnosed with severe Crohn's Disease. Within 10 months I found myself on my death bed. My physical state was deteriorating rapidly and the pain was stronger and more unbearable everyday. In those weakest's moments I could not restrain myself from asking "Why?" "Why me?" "I had tried to live a righteous life, I had tried to serve Him and do everything right." Over time, I came to understand that murmuring was not going to get anywhere, but, I had to make up my mind to Trust God, Trust His Will and give Him my life and in return He will give me mine. Now or after this life, but either way it is through Him that I will have Eternal Life. In the Book of Mormon, in the book of Ether we read, "for ye receive no witness until after the trial of your faith." It was only after having hope and enduring the trail that I grew in faith and was able to more fully understand the plan God has for me. It was not easy! I suffered, I cried and it took everything out of me, but I can say that it was God and Jesus Christ who carried me through that struggle and the many more after that! I testify with a unbreakable surety that this gospel is the true and everlasting gospel! Jesus Christ is at the Head of the Church, it is His Church and the authority that it holds comes from Him. I know that the scriptures are the words of God, for Us. And that if we have just a little bit of faith, and if we repent and are baptised in His name we will find Him. We will draw close unto Him and He will draw closer unto Us. I leave these things in the sacred name of Our Saviour, Jesus Christ, Amen.

How I live my faith

Aside from the daily personal things I do to draw closer unto my Lord and God, I do try my best to be a disciple of Christ among my community, friends and family as much as possible. I love to provide service to all those I can and more importantly, I do my best to let the light of Christ shine unto all those who I come in contact with. Within the church setting I do have the calling to be a teacher for the ladies in the Young Single Adult ward I am currently attending. However, I believe that one of the greatest focuses I have in my life in this moment is my preparation for my 18 months mission to Calgary Canada. Serving a mission in not an easy task, as we are leaving behind our social life, family, careers, studies and whatnot to go out to the world and share with others the gospel of Jesus Christ. To bring to them the knowledge we have and to bring them closer to Our Heavenly Father and Savior, Jesus Christ. As I prepare to serve the people in Calgary I do so with all my might, body and mind. It is my greatest desire to share with people the one thing that has brought me so much peace and joy amidst the struggles and tribulations of life, and to help others build a lasting relationship with Our Saviour (my best friend) Jesus Christ.
