Hi I'm Mary Curtis

I'm an American. I married my best friend. I survived an AVM. I love the New Testament. I'm a mormon.

About Me

I was raised with sarcasm and I love it. I am a personal trainer and I know it was always my calling, to help other improve their lives. I love movies that I can learn from. I've spoken French for the majority of my life; I've lost some of it from my brain illness, but I try to improve each day. I absolutely love traveling. My parents have taken us all over the world, and I can't wait to do this with my kids. I have always enjoyed volleyball, soccer and track. I love that I grew up in Washington. My husband is currently a medical student, so we'll live in plenty of places before we find a place for our kids to grow up in. No matter where we go, my husband is always my home.

Why I am a Mormon

I belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, which has been nicknamed to be a Mormon. I was raised in this church and was truly converted in high school. I was mocked and persecuted from middle school to high school in my home town. Classmates, coaches, friends and teachers made fun of me every day and constantly tried to tell me why being a Mormon was wrong. Although they wanted to tear me down, all they did was build me up. I had to ask myself why I was a Mormon. This made me study the scriptures every day after school and really understand what I believe. It made my testimony stronger than before. I almost died in 2010. In short, I was born with a brain malformation called an AVM. I survived everything that all other AVM victims could not. Doctors had no idea how I was still alive and how miraculously recovered. This was without a doubt only possible through the Savior, Heavenly Father, and the most powerful faith that comes from being raised in this gospel. I choose to be a Mormon because I am Christian. I choose to be a Mormon so that I can be sealed to my husband and my family forever. I choose to be a Mormon so that I grow closer to my Savior. I am a member of this church because of the love I feel from everyone who belongs to it. I am a Mormon, and I will be forever.

How I live my faith

I pay my tithing every week. I feel so blessed that I have a job that allows me to do this. I know that these blessings come from sacrifice and charity. I have worked with the youth, specifically girls in their teens, which has brought me to appreciate the leadership in this ward. I've worked with boy scouts to achieve their personal fitness badge. I visit with women in our ward who are in need of friends, comfort and a stronger testimony of this gospel. I invite my friends to church on Sunday and activities so that I can share what I love with them.

What is a “testimony” that Mormons speak of?

Mary Curtis
A testimony is a strong and spiritual belief that comes from the Holy Ghost and, in my opinion, personal experiences. I testimony strengthens your faith and defines your relationship with the Savior and our Father in Heaven. Show more Show less
