Hi I'm Kathy McClung

I am from the Northwest but currently live in Alabama. I am a retired nurse. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am a wife, mother, and grandmother. I have lived all over this country and in Europe. I have family here and in Australia. I miss the ones that are not here. I was a single mother of three, worked two jobs and went to school. I married an exceptional man and we relocated. I went back to school again. I became disabled and went back to school again. I am currently working on a masters degree. I do not quit. I want to teach GED classes and participate in literacy programs. I love family get togethers, reading, music, and a good movie or TV show, in that order.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because God loves me and he sent me truth. Through years of abuse and neglect I survived and grew because I knew he was with me. I always felt there was a way to be closer to him. I joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Northwest in the late 70's. I had always believed that Jesus would not come to this earth without visiting the people of the Americas. The book of Mormon is the story of these people and includes Jesus's visit to them. I also believed that the God I was taught to know and love would not leave us without a prophet to lead us. This Church is led by a living Prophet of God. When I learned these simple truths I knew I had found the true Church. The hardest thing for me to change was the day I believed was the Sabbath, which had been Saturday. When I read in Isiah that the Sabbath was made for man not man for the Sabbath I knew the day I worshiped on was not the main point. I have not always been an active member but in 1994 I found it was time for a change in my life. I started to practice what I believed. It has not always been a smooth road but with the gospel in my life the pot holes and hazards on that road have not wrecked me. In 1999 I became worthy to attend the Temple. I love my visits to the Temple and work to remain worthy of this blessing.

How I live my faith

I love the gospel. In my branch I am one of four teachers for an adult "gospel doctrine" or Sunday school class and I teach on the third Sunday of each month. I also am the director of public affairs for our "stake" which currently includes a total of 12 wards and branches. Although I have had other callings being a visiting teacher is my favorite. In my community I volunteer for the literacy program.
