Hi I'm Mate

Born and raised in Idaho, Oregon, and Puerto Rico. Music, art, and being in the mountains with my family and friends are my love.

About Me

I love being in the outdoors. Hiking, mountain biking, fishing, shooting, dirtbikes, anything that gets me out of the house and with my family. I am going on a mission, headed to Ventura California! I have been in the Civil Air Patrol as a cadet for 4 years, and am an Eagle Scout. I love music. I have played the guitar for 7 years, and would love to become a professional musician. Hopefully I'm headed to Utah State after my mission to study Mechanical Engineering, and to participate in the Air Force ROTC program there, and become a commissioned officer in the United States Air Force.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I know that the Gospel is true. I have studied and prayed for countless hours, and I have received my personal witness to know for myself. Jesus Christ is our Savior, He came to earth to atone for our sins, and I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that through Him I can repent, be forgiven of my sins, and become a better person every day to bring myself closer to Him and my Heavenly Father. I know that I can speak to my Heavenly Father anytime, anywhere, that He listens and loves me, and always wants me to do the right thing. I know that if I do make the right choices, I can have the companionship of the Holy Ghost, to help direct me towards the choices that are best for me.

How I live my faith

For me, understanding that the truest expression of Faith is in actions has changed my Life. Two of my favorite scriptures are in 1st Thessalonians 5:24 - "Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it." and in Mosiah 4:10 - "..and now, if you believe all these things see that ye do them." The strength I have gained from Scripture study and application has been truly amazing to me. I know that the biggest changes I have seen in my life have come from following the Saviors example to lift up those who are struggling, to walk alongside those who are trying their best and need a friend, or to simply be someone whom others can talk to. Everyday living of faith can be difficult when you are surrounded by the world's influences, but we can be strengthened by the Companionship of the Holy Ghost. Staying in places where we can feel His influence is one of the first and easiest things we can do to to remain directed. Staying worthy of His companionship is another thing that puts us in a Holy place, by making ourselves a spiritual Reserve of strength. Following every prompting He gives us not only strengthens our self control, but allows us to be prepared for future promptings that will give us greater knowledge and growth. For me, I live my faith by reading the Book of Mormon every day, without missing a day. That has given me an Anchor for my soul, and helped me to grow in my relationship with my Savior. I share the Gospel with those I love, whether they are a member of the Church or not. It has brought me such great joy, I know that it will the same to others.
