Hi I'm Melyssa

I love to draw, write, and travel. I am a full-time missionary.

About Me

I grew up in Nampa, Idaho in a middle-lower class family. As a child, I spent all my time outdoors, playing with my friends and using my imagination. It is this imagination that has allowed me to develop my creativity in writing. My parents divorced when I was 11 and I've had kind of a rocky road when it comes to my testimony, but I've continued in the faith with the hope that one day I'll understand the gospel better and come to terms with a separated family. Luckily for me, my parents are still good friends and I am able to be connected with my family which has spread out across the country. I love reading and writing. Before I came out on my mission, I was in the process of writing a novel and contemplating on whether or not I would major in illustration in college. Since then, I have decided that illustration is the way for me to go, with an addition of a minor in animation. I have also determined to FINISH THAT NOVEL, which I have been working on since I was 10. Fellow writers out there will understand the strange love/hate relationship that I have with completing a story. I also love to travel. I've been blessed to travel to many different countries and other states and I plan to nurture my love for travel when I return home from my mission. Meeting new people, eating new foods, seeing new things, and experiencing different cultures is one my greatest loves. I love this beautiful world that the Lord has created for us, and I want to explore every inch of it!

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because the restored gospel of Jesus Christ, as taught in The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-day Saints, is too complete to not believe. There was a time when I felt trapped in what I would describe as my "darkest abyss." I didn't have faith in anything and I wondered if everything in life was one big, fancy lie. I floundered for a long time, wondering what the purpose of my life could possibly be. I felt hopeless. But when I reached out for help, I was received warmly and lovingly by my family, my congregation, and my Savior. I was given hope for my life and was shown that I could help others receive that hope as well. This is also the reason I am serving a full-time mission for the Church -- to help others climb out of their darkest abyss and experience the love of the Savior. I'm a Mormon because the gospel of this Church gives me hope for my family. We are taught that families can be united for eternity which is a comfort for me since my parents are divorced and some beloved family members have passed on. I'm a Mormon because I love my Savior Jesus Christ and the Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-day Saints has helped to come closer to Him and experience his love in a way that I wouldn't have known otherwise.

How I live my faith

I am currently serving a full-time mission for The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-day Saints, and I love it! For the next eighteen months, I will be working hard to invite others to come unto Christ, by helping them receive the restored gospel of Jesus Christ and His Atonement, repentance, baptism, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end. Before my mission, I had a calling at church teaching children 2-3 years old. It was definitely a challenge, but it was one I enjoyed. Spending time with those young kids helped me to understand the gospel better because I had to break down the concepts for them to understand and in a way that they enjoyed learning. I strongly believe that teaching these kids has helped me to prepare for my mission.
