Hi I'm Russ Stankiewicz,MD

I grew up in Connecticut, the second smallest state in the United States. I was the only member in my high school graduating class

About Me

I've practiced medicine as an Obstetrician/Gynecologist for over 25 years. It has been a wonderful career welcoming new Souls into the world. I often tell my patients that we are in the business of making families, as families are the most important building block of society. My wife and I are the parents of five children, three that are married, and two still young enough, that they haven't given much thought to marriage yet. Besides medicine and family,my other passion is that of a private pilot. I've flown over 2,600 hours, and find that flight gives me a unique perspective on the world, and probably on life.

Why I am a Mormon

As a teenager, and a life long member, I began to feel as though there might be something different relating to different faiths, and I became curious. Investigating other faiths help me understand my own faith better, and I after a short time of searching, found that what I had as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, was what I was really searching for. I, had to do what we encourage anyone looking into our faith has to do; I had to study, ponder, and pray. Most importantly, I had to humble myself, get down on my knees and ask God if I had truth, and if this was His Church. After a space of time I received a personal answer to my prayers, which to this day, has been confirmed to me many times, that the truth and correctness of that answer to my prayers continues to be valid. I've always thought that anything in life worth having, is worth working toward. My testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ is one of my most treasured and valued possessions. The idea that I have had a witness of the truth does not stand alone, it is manifested in the goodness of life and in the goodness we share with one another. I feel that love for each other and mankind will bridge every gap and cross every divide, uniting us as brothers and sisters in this life and for eternity. In today's world that comfort gives me a peace that transcends the political and social upheavals that life is prone to provide.

How I live my faith

As a member of the church I've had the opportunity to serve in various areas. I've served as Sunday school teacher to youth and adults. Studying and teaching the gospel is one of the most rewarding and enlightening things I have done. I've also had the responsibility to serve in leadership positions; as a bishop (local leader) and later as a stake president( area leader), I've had a great relationship with children, youth, and adults in our mutual efforts to understand and learn, but more importantly, live gospel principles. My service in the church was underscored while I served as a full time missionary in the Philippines-Manila Mission for two years. The Philipino people will always have a special place in my heart, as they taught me humility and love. Currently I labor with the full time missionaries in my area as the ward mission leader, a coordinating and teaching position to help people not familiar with our faith, learn of the restored gospel, and help answer questions that some may have concerning our church.
