Hi I'm Garrett

I love being outdoors and I love learning! I enjoy technology and books. I'm a brother and son. I'm a missionary. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am from rural West Virginia where I live with my Mom, Dad and three siblings on a farm. When I was thirteen, we decided as a family that we would study and learn at home. I spent the rest of middle school and high school gaining a massive appreciation for learning and came to realize that knowledge is one of the most valuable assets we can have. I also gained an awesome appreciation for my family after all the time I spent with them. Homeschooling was one of the best decisions of my life. Another influential turning point in my life was the decision to serve a mission for my church. In January of 2014, I was called by a prophet of God to go to California and learn Spanish and have loved every second of it. I am thankful for the opportunity to see new places, try new foods, learn a new language and preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Though I am not sure exactly what my future holds, I know that it will include learning, and inspiring others to do so, loving my family, and living the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because the gospel of Jesus Christ has always seemed to fit together in a beautiful way and nothing else has brought me the same lasting happiness. I know that before this life we lived with a Heavenly Father who loves us dearly, this is the reason He provided a plan for us to return to be with him. In this life, although we are imperfect, we can be clean from the mistakes we make through the Atonement of our elder brother, Jesus Christ. I know that He understands what we have gone through. I know that as we learn His gospel and put it into practice in our lives by keeping His commandments, we can find greater happiness and peace in our lives. With the ordinances, covenants, and promises we make in the temples of our Heavenly Father, our families can live together forever and we will be able to live with God again.

How I live my faith

I come from a small town in West Virginia where almost everyone is family and everyone is friends. Though we have different religions, we all get along well and have a small, friendly, community. Wether it's during softball games in the summer or festivals in the fall, I have learned that we are all children of God we should love another. I love being part of a Scout troop with Scouts from many different faiths. I love being part of a church that is a family in itself were members love and support each other. I try to "practice what I preach" by acting everyday to be an example for those around me. I love studying the scriptures, praying everyday, and attending church each week. I know that as we keep the commandments of God and live the gospel of Jesus Christ we can prepare ourselves to live with Them again someday.

What is the Atonement of Jesus Christ? Why was it necessary for Jesus Christ to sacrifice His life?

Garrett
At the end of his mortal ministry, the only begotten son of God, Jesus Christ, endured terrible suffering. He felt every pain, every sorrow, every disappointment, and every regret that we have and ever will have. Because of this, there is someone who is apathetic to our trials in this life. We are all children of God, and He wanted us to enjoy the same happiness He has and gain an body. This was possible through our mortal time here on the earth. But as we are here, we learn and make mistakes and so doing make ourselves imperfect. If we returned to our Heavenly Father in this state, we could not endure to be in his presence because of our imperfections and guilt. Therefore, it was necessary that we could be forgiven of our sins. And thus there is the need for the atonement of Jesus Christ. I know he is our Savior, our Redeemer and older Brother. He loves us and so does our Heavenly Father. Through Jesus Christ, we will be able to free from our guilt and feel worthy to stand in Their presence again. Show more Show less
