Hi I'm Derek

I grew up in Appleton, Wisconsin and Canon City, Colorado. I graduated with my Associate of Science degree. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up as a homeschooled child for twelve years. When my family and I moved, I took one year at the public middle school where I now lived. I decided that I hated that experience and wanted to keep being homeschooled. In my sophomore in high school, I enrolled in the concurrent enrollment program offered by an online charter school. This program allowed me to take college classes at a community college located in the town I lived in. These classes served as both high school and college credit by the online charter school. I continued to do this program for two years until I completed all of the classes required for an Associate of Science degree. I now have high school and two years of college under my belt. As far as hobbies and things that I am interested in, I for one love music and took piano lessons for three years. I enjoyed playing church hymns, classical music, and pieces of classic rock. I also like working out and running. These activities help me to relieve stress. Currently, I am single, as I am about to be serving an LDS mission. When I return from my mission, I plan to resume my college studies and eventually become a CPA (Certified Public Accountant).

Why I am a Mormon

I can truly say that there is nothing more satisfying than living the gospel of Christ. Nothing makes me happier. As I have strived to live the commandments the Lord has given to all of us, my testimony of the love He has for His children has increased tremendously. Because I know that the church I attend is the one and only true church upon the face of the earth, containing the fulness of the gospel of Christ, I want to go out as a full-time missionary and share my beliefs with others and help them to become converted to the church so that they can enjoy all the blessings the gospel brings to people. I have a sincere testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. I know that He lives and atoned for our sins so that we would be able to return to Him and our Heavenly Father someday. I know that we have a living prophet on the earth today just as there were prophets on the earth in ancient times. This man is President Thomas S. Monson. I know Joseph Smith was a true prophet, and he helped to restore the gospel and true church to the earth after being lost for centuries. I have been so blessed to be a part of the Mormon church. I know that the Book of Mormon is another testament of Jesus Christ and that it contains the fullness of His gospel. I invite all others to partake of this gospel and enjoys all of its blessings.

How I live my faith

From age 12 to 18, I have served in various leadership positions in the church I am affiliated with. I have a strong desire to serve my Creator and do so by serving in His church. In the LDS church, members are given specific callings to fulfill by the Lord. I was called to serve in several presidencies, in which I presided over a group of young men to support them in their duties to God. I have organized activities several times for the youth of my church that have been helpful to the growing of their friendships and testimonies of the gospel of Christ. I have also served as home teacher in my church. I would go with a companion to visit the homes of church members that I was assigned to visit to see how they were doing in the church. I would do all that I could to get to know these individuals well and see that their needs were met. Besides serving in my church, I did an Eagle Scout service project, in which I painted and repaired picnic tables at a park in the town I lived in. All those who have done Eagle projects know that this is not an easy task, as planning the project alone is quite a burden.
