Hi I'm Michael

I grew up in North Carolina. I'm 19 and serving a mission for two years in Lima, Peru. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have lived almost all my life in North Carolina, but I also used to live in Texas. I'm the youngest of three children, I have two older sisters. Pretty much my entire family is members of the LDS church. All of my nuclear family and a lot of my extended family have attended Brigham Young University, that is where my parents met. I've completed my freshman year at BYU and now I am taking a two year break from college to serve a mission for the church in Lima, Peru. There I will serve the people and try to invite others to learn about the Gospel and come unto Christ. I really enjoyed college so far, I love BYU and living in Provo, Utah. In high school, I played lacrosse and ran cross country and also really enjoyed playing basketball. I love to spend time with my family and I love cheering on my favorite sports teams and being in the outdoors.

Why I am a Mormon

For a really long time, I would say that the reason I was Mormon is because my family was. I was born into this church, so I don't know anything else. Many times in the church people talk about finding your own testimony, or receiving your own conversion instead of relying on others. In my earlier teenage years, this really concerned me because that hadn't been something that I had done. It wasn't that I didn't believe, I have always believed. But, I felt like I didn't know as much as I should have or could have. I felt spiritually weak. I was able to come to know the truthfulness of the Gospel through the Atonement of Jesus Christ. I have had to implement it in my life and I have come to know that it is real. Because I know that it is real I am able to have the confidence and growing knowledge to say that this church is the church that teaches the true doctrine and Gospel of Jesus Christ. My testimony is not perfect and it is ever growing, especially in the last two years of my life since I've finished high school and gone to college and prepared for a mission. There is no other place that I have felt the peace and joy than I have felt at church and especially in the holy temple. I know that the gospel is true and I especially know through experience that when we abide by it's teachings we will be happier than we could possibly be any other way. I say these things, in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

How I live my faith

I will be serving a two year mission in Lima, Peru. I will learn the Spanish language and the culture and customs of the people there and do my best to serve them and invite them to hear the message of the restored Gospel that missionaries have to share. Before I received my mission call to Peru, when I was still at college in Utah I was the one who taught one of the Sunday lessons to the young men my age. I learned a lot about teaching and have hopes that this will prove to be helpful on my mission.
