Hi I'm Blake

I grew up in Utah. I have OCD. I'm a Mormon

About Me

I've lived in Utah for my life growing up. I did lots of extracurricular activities in high school. I enjoy music. I play the trombone and in high school i played in my school's concert, jazz, and marching band. I also enjoy working with technology. I was in my school robotics club and film production crew. I also enjoy scouts in the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). I worked in that as a youth quite a lot and I hope to in the future as well. I love to spend time with friends and family and I love to relax and hang out. I currently work in film and enjoy working in editing and special effects a lot. I have helped with some of the projects the LDS Church produced through a Church Service Mission I served. That is where i currently work.

Why I am a Mormon

I have always been a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I always love to be with and interact with my fellow members who are just like family to me. So many people have made an amazing difference in my life. I love that through Jesus Christ, i can be with my family forever, and live in peace and happiness. When i go to church, i get a small taste of what is to come. A little over a year ago, I left to serve as a missionary for the LDS Church to teach the gospel in the Philippines. Soon after I became very sick and came to find out that I suffer from the mental illness known as Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, or OCD. I was sent home for treatment, and for just a little less than a year I worked hard to get better. All in all, through all the stress and anxiety of it all, it was the teaching of my church that made me whole again, and I soon found myself able to serve as a Young Church Service Missionary (YCSM). I serve in the media department of the Church and help with editing and special effects. As a Service Missionary, I have continued to recover and my life has changed as I served. I have found incredible joy as I have served and I continue to serve as far as my own capacity permits. Soon I will be returning to serve as a proselyting missionary. I can't wait to serve my Savior Jesus Christ and share even a small amount of the joy i have experienced in being a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I have always enjoyed going to church. I have always gone since I was able as well. I have held various leadership positions in the LDS Church both as a youth and as an Adult. I have lead youth groups in religious and scouting activities. I currently serve in helping to organize teaching classes and often times find myself teaching them. I have also served both as a missionary and helped to teach the gospel to the people in the Philippines. I currently serve in a Young Church Service Mission, where I serve in editing and special effects for the various videos that the Church releases. I love going to church, not only to learn about the Gospel, but to feel great and get myself ready for the coming week. I greatly enjoy the peace and love I feel among the people of the Church in my area. I love serving others and I'm glad I always have so many opportunities to do so.

What is the Atonement of Jesus Christ? Why was it necessary for Jesus Christ to sacrifice His life?

Blake
In the Book of Mormon, it says: "For it is expedient that an atonement should be made; for according to the great plan of the Eternal God there must be an atonement made, or else all mankind must unavoidably perish". (Book of Mormon, Alma 34:9) In other words, the Atonement had to be done in order for all mankind to be able to return to Heavenly Father's presence. Being imperfect, all of us need the Atonement in order to receive forgiveness for our sins. So Jesus Christ, being perfect and never having done wrong, suffered for us that we "may be purified even as he is pure". (Book of Mormon, Moroni 7:48) Through the process of the Atonement, Jesus Christ experienced everything that mankind has experienced. Whether sadness, betrayal, or pain, because of the Atonement, Jesus Christ understands our suffering. He even suffered death so that he could understand and experience our pains. To me, all of this is comforting, knowing that Christ perfectly understands our pains and hardships. We never have to be alone. He knows, he understands. Because of Jesus Christ, we never need to do anything by ourselves because he is here with us. Show more Show less
