Hi I'm Ethan

I love the mountains. I'm serving a mission in London, England. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in southern Idaho in a family of six. I have two brothers and a sister. While growing up, I was involved in many pursuits such as music, sports, and outdoor activities. Early on in my childhood, I developed a love for running. I participated in track and cross country throughout Junior High and High School. I worked hard through high school in academics and sports and have now been attending BYU for a year. So many things have changed during that time. Since leaving for college, I have discovered where my true passions lie. In particular, I have discovered that I have the ability to love and appreciate the things that God has created on the Earth. When I was young, my mom and I would backpack every summer in the mountains of central Idaho. Over time, I have grown to love the outdoors more than ever and have been very active in trail running and other mountain sports. When I'm in the mountains, I feel so much closer to Heavenly Father and gain perspective and direction in my life. All of this has permeated into my academic pursuits as well. At BYU, I am a physical geography major. It gives me such pleasure to blend the beautiful creations of God, my schooling, and my love of fitness, physical activity, and adventure all into one.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because it makes me happy. I want to keep the commandments because they improve my life. It takes a certain perspective to see how the "rules" we follow are really instructions that will guide us to where we want to be. Being a Mormon takes commitment and sacrifice. That is why it is so gratifying. Anything worthwhile is not going to be unduly easy. The point is that it will be worth it. I'm a Mormon because I love my Heavenly Father, I love Jesus Christ, I love my family and friends, I love my brothers and sisters all around the world, and I love all of the good things that bless our lives each day. I am so grateful to be a member of this church and to have the opportunity to share it with the people of England and everyone else I come into contact with.

How I live my faith

A major way that I am currently living my faith is by accepting the call to serve a mission in London, England. It will be a sacrifice to leave behind many of the people and things I love for two years, but it will be worth it. Sometimes, I ask myself why I am serving a mission because if I'm going to do it, then I want to have a good reason. It's come down to the fact that I have been so blessed. The Gospel of Jesus Christ has been such a wonderful influence in my life and God has provided so much that benefits me every day. Everything good comes from God. I love my life and I love this world. I think that Earth is amazing and I believe that people are good. I know that through the Atonement of Jesus Christ, we can all become able to live with our Heavenly Father again. Until recently, I was afraid that becoming too righteous would result in a loss of my personality and limit me. But I've come to realize that as we keep the commandments, stay humble, and strive to become better that the good things in our life will only bring us more joy. God desires to bless us with all that He has and if we come unto Him with full purpose of heart, we won't lose anything that is good and makes us happy. We will only gain more and reinforce that which we already have. I know that these things are true and I know that by coming to Christ, we can obtain lasting happiness. All the good in our lives will continue on forever and we will continually progress and become better. Happiness is progression This is what I wish to share with the people of England. I want them to know that they can have their families forever. I want them to know that they can do the things that they love with the people that they love forever. I can't adequately put into words the the things I feel because there isn't enough space. But I know that as I serve a mission, I will be living my faith. I will be serving my brothers and sisters and helping them to have joy in their lives now and forever.
