Hi I'm Jaren

I grew up all over the USA. I'm a musician, an athlete, and an engineering student. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I enjoy playing music and singing. I've learned to play the violin, the piano, and have recently picked up the viola, guitar, and organ as well. I sang in my high school madrigals group for two years and intend on singing in university choirs. During the summer of 2013 I was the fiddler in a church production of "The Fiddler on the Roof" which was a great experience. I love football (soccer) and golf, and I am up to play just about any other sport with friends! I have been in the waters of each of the three major coasts in the United States as I've lived in Texas, Maryland and California where I've come to love driving and bodysurfing.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into a Mormon family, and haven't ever had any issues with it. I'm a rather logical and perhaps even analytic person and it all makes sense. During my freshman year of high school, in seminary I chose to memorize Joseph Smith's account of the First Vision. During the month or so it took to memorize it there was a particular night when as I read through it, the Spirit was so strong and I felt so peaceful and knew that what I was reading was true and that Joseph Smith really was a prophet of God. Because of this, the Book of Mormon which he translated is true and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints must also be true because it is the church that was restored through him. I know God lives and that Jesus Christ is our Savior. They both love us and know who we are and what we need, even when we don't.

How I live my faith

I spent two years in England and Wales living my faith to the fullest and sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with everyone I met. I live my faith now by being an "example of the believers" (1 Tim. 4:16). People who know me know what I believe as they learn my standards. I simply do small things like not swearing and they notice. I don't often go out of my way to proclaim my beliefs, but if people ask I answer their questions happily.

Why is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints called Mormons or Mormonism?

In the early days of the church, because we believe in the Book of Mormon as well as the Bible, persecutors called church members Mormons. Because we were known by many people as Mormons, it has been widely used, though the official name of the church is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints since it is Christ's church, not the Book of Mormon prophet Mormon's church.
