Hi I'm Mike

Southern boy, college graduate, father, grandfather, business & community leader. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My two favorite states are NC and Texas. I am bilingual--Spanish/English. One of my favorite things to do is to be outdoors enjoying God's creations. This experience always stirs feelings of gratitude. I enjoy sports, both as a participant and as a spectator.

Why I am a Mormon

At an early age I joined the church along with my sister-in-law who is really like a sister to me. At the time I was very active in sports and had plans of pursuing it into college. I tried to live the standards of the church with some success and some failure as well. It was easy for me to feel the spirit and often did. This helped me to progress in the gospel and would eventually lead me to serve a mission. The mission experience for me was amazing. Throughout my mission I would think about how great it would be if someone in my family could be with me, experiencing what I was. My one hope at the end of my mission was to return with my wife to be on a future mission and then my wish could be realized. I decided around the age of 23 that I had to find a way to be able to retire at age 55 so I would have plenty of physical ability to serve a mission with my wife. I retired recently, just 3 months into my 56th year on this earth. We hope to serve a mission soon where we can share with others how this church contains the FULLNESS of the gospel of Jesus Christ. I believe God works through all of His children to help bring about His goals for them, that we might have joy and return and live with Him one day.

How I live my faith

I love family and people in general which makes serving them a joy. Occasionally, I will write emails to our kids that are gospel centered in an effort to help with their spiritual progress. Sometimes we are able to have family home evenings together. In our church I have served as the High Priest group leader for more than 5 years now. This group is made up of men that are generally among the older group in church. We have over 30 high priests that serve over a hundred families in our ward through the home teaching program. In my community I am serving on the board for the YMCA and head up the annual giving campaign for that organization on a local basis. I am also assisting in the United Way campaign contacting local industries and showing them how they can participate and benefit in doing so.
