Hi I'm Andrea

I was born and raised in Twin Falls, Idaho to a strong LDS family. I went to South Carolina for my mission. I'm a Mormon

About Me

I was born and raised in south central Idaho. I was born in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. My dad's dad's side of the family goes back to the LDS pioneers. My dad's mom's side I am the third generation. However, my mom joined when she was 14 and she is the only member. I do have some very strong roots in this church, and I am grateful (see Why I am a Mormon section to see the explanation). I went to the South Carolina Columbia Mission 20 years ago. It was the time of my life that I could see that I was truly doing what God wanted me to do. God used me as a mouth piece because of my speech impediment. I could tell when the Holy Ghost was speaking through me because the people understood me. It is like that whenever I give talks in Church also. I went 2 years to the community college in my home town before my mission and 4 years after my mission. While there I belonged to the LDS church sorority. After I got my associates degree, I went to BYU and 5 1/2 years later I got a bachelor's degree in family history. I am still single, even though I want to get married and have a family of my own which will happen in God's time. I just have to be patient in His timing.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was born the doctors thought I was normal; however, my parents and two of my grandparent knew something was wrong with me. I was not showing any symptoms though, so they could not prove it. When I was 10 days old I started to cry a lot and this went on for most of the days for 10 months. I was 7 pounds when I was born and ten months I was 7 pounds. This is when they found out I have basically no pancreatic enzymes to digest past my stomach. After I got the right medicine I got better and progressed like I was supposed to. I can see the faith of my parents and other relatives to keep me alive. I hearing my mom talk about how close to death I was, I can see I do have a purpose to life. I also have ADD and a severe speech problem so you can imagine how mean the kids were in school. When I was 11 years old, I was hit by a pickup while riding my bike. I was thrown about 10 feet and got a compound fracture on my femur. When I was on the road while the EMTs were getting me ready to put me in the stretcher to put me in the ambulance I remember seeing 2 men in a bright gold light, telling me not to worry that they were straightening my leg out. I remember when they told me this I felt peace. I do remember their faces. When I was older I babysat for one of them. He did not look like the two men, I asked my mom what the other one looked like because she is a nurse and worked with him. She told me and he did not resemble either of the two men that I saw. In my patriarchal blessing says that I have a guardian angel watching over me. I believe I saw him that day. I think people who read this wonder why I put this down. I think it shows how and why I am a Mormon. Heavenly Father and Jesus love me so much that they would protect me through these situations and they have been with me when I felt that no one has been there for me. This Church is the only place where I know that you can find this type of unconditional love.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by always praying. I read the scriptures (especially the Book of Mormon) every day. I go to church every week and partake of the sacrament worthily. Mainly I just try to be a good example for those around me. I try to follow the promptings of the Holy Ghost when I feel them to the best of my ability. I try to be kind and gentle with those around me. I also try to understand how people feel when other people are mean to them because I know how it feels. When I was 2-19, I was bullied (made fun of) every time someone had the time to, which was anytime outside of adult supervision (a lot). I did not have hardly any friends, this was not by choice. Whenever I tried to I was pushed away. There a about 5-10 kids that did not, and out of that only 4 kids would actually be seen playing with me. I thought no one cared if I was a live, this is when I really learned that Heavenly Father does care and wanted me to be there. I am starting to see the reason why now. I am just living my life the best I can and keeping the covenants I have made with God to the best of my ability.

How can we increase our faith in Jesus Christ?

Andrea
The way that I found that helps me increase my faith in Jesus Christ is by reading the scriptures and taking every word in them as truth (especially the Book of Mormon). I try to put me in the stories and see how the actual people in the stories relate to me. I also wonder what it would be like to see and talk to the people. I listen to the modern day prophet and apostles and live the best I can to the teachings they give. The most important thing I do is study about the Gospel especially about the atonement and about faith in Christ. These two things will bring any one closer to God. Show more Show less
