Hi I'm James

I like to think about life. I like to fly fish, backpack, paint, and explore nature. I'm a math kid. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, and was raised there till I was eighteen. I grew up playing with LEGOs, drawing pictures, and imagining new worlds. My favorite hobbies now include fly fishing, backpacking, and painting. Mandarin Chinese has been a huge part of my life; I have studied it in school in Utah and abroad in Taiwan. I am the youngest of five and an uncle to nine with more on the way!

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I have felt God's love in my life and His Holy Spirit touch my heart through activity in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I grew up always believing it was true, but this was fortified and strengthened when I started to really question and make sure through prayer and obedience. Through the piercing feeling of the Spirit that has come by studying the Book of Mormon and prayer I know Joseph Smith was a true prophet of God. Because of that, I have dedicated my life to serving and coming to know Jesus Christ. I feel His power, His love, and His sustaining influence everyday and that's what keeps me going.

How I live my faith

I grew up attending church with my family and have always loved it. I started to participate in administering the sacrament at church every Sunday when I was twelve. From that I learned to love the people I associate with and how to serve other people with through being a Mormon. Each month I have had the opportunity to visit families from my congregation and teach them Gospel lessons as well. At home I grew in faith through studying modern and ancient scripture and fervent prayer and have truly come to know who God is and His Son Jesus Christ.

What is the Atonement of Jesus Christ? Why was it necessary for Jesus Christ to sacrifice His life?

James
The Atonement of Jesus Christ was the pinnacle event of Christ's life and the central, most important act for the salvation of mankind. Jesus suffered unimaginable pain for our sins and died upon the cross so that if we accept and follow Him as our Savior, our mistakes will be washed away and we will not have to pay for them. When we sin, eternal justice demands that either we are punished for the violation of God's law or we can ask forgiveness and repent, which path Christ allowed by suffering for the sins of all people. This blessing can only be accessed if we change our lives and leave the sin behind with faith in Christ as our Savior. I know that Christ's Atonement is real because its power has shaped my entire being. Each time I turn to Him for forgiveness and try to better align my life with His, I am so much happier and stronger. Show more Show less
