Hi I'm Curtis

I joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints when I was 21 years old. I am the only member in my family.

About Me

I grew up on a farm in Nebraska, and went to a very small school. My graduating class only had twelve students. I joined the US Navy and served on the USS Florida SSBN 728 (Nuclear Ohio Class Ballistic Missile Submarine) as a Nuclear Machinist Mate. I have worked in the industrial gasses industry for about 15 years total, a petroleum pipeline and facility for a couple years, and an engineering company for a couple years. I have one child, and my family is sealed in the Temple. I have served in numerous callings in numerous geographic locations. I hold the Melchizedek Priesthood as a High Priest.

Why I am a Mormon

The initial attraction to the Mormon Faith was from the members who live the gospel. It isn't just a religion, it is a culture to those who embrace it and live it. I had never met a group of people who lived their lives in such happiness, cleanliness, and sense of direction. When I investigated the people, I found the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to be the common thread that connected them all. When I investigated the Church, I found out some of the reasons that perhaps these people lived their lives the way that they did. They knew where they came from, what their purpose on earth was, and seemed to know where they were going after this life. Having such direction in life makes a difference in goal setting, sense of being and purpose. It was logic that drew me to the Church, but it is the Book of Mormon and Latter Day Scripture that kept me searching, learning, and growing. It is faith of these things being true that caused me to want to be a part of it and be baptized. Twenty something years after being baptized, I am still learning and growing.

How I live my faith

One of my current responsibilities is that of Ward Genealogy Specialist, which I love and have been very passionate about. I have had some significant success in my genealogy efforts personally, but one of the greatest blessings of this calling is teaching others how to do their genealogy. I am currently teaching a Sunday School Class about genealogy and teaching people how to do their own genealogy on Family Search. Recent technological advances has made doing genealogy very simple and anyone with internet access can now do it.
