Hi I'm Gerri

I've always lived in the Salt Lake City area. I'm a retired elementary school teacher who taught in K, 1st, and 2nd grades.

About Me

The cultural arts and education are my interests as well as what I've been involved with throughout my life. I'm a mother of four and grandmother of ten. I've been married for 47 years. I enjoy serving in my church and my community.

Why I am a Mormon

I was lucky enough to have been born of goodly parents who always went with me to church and showed me the way to serve others. My grandparents were great examples to me of service in the church and the community. I received a personal feeling or testimony of the truthfulness of the gospel of Jesus Christ when I was a teenager and after reading the BOOK OF MORMON. I continue to follow the teaching of Jesus, because of my deep love and appreciation for His Atonement. Also it makes me feel good to serve and to worship Him. I love attending church and partaking of the sacrament each week. I wish that I could have shared my testimony of the truthfulness of the restored Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with my students, but I taught in public schools for 24 years and that sharing wasn't allowed. I hope that some of my former class members will read this and realize that their former teacher had a belief in Jesus Christ's divinity.

How I live my faith

I was recently released as my ward's leader of children ages 18 months to 12 years of age, which included active participation as a Cub Scout leader. I was blessed to make sure that many boys achieved their Webelos and Arrow of Light awards. Currently I'm assigned to visit and teacher 3 women and with my husband to visit 4 families. I serve on the compassionate service committee of my ward. I'm a docent at an art museum as a service to my community. I have educated hundreds of children about the visual arts. For over 20 years I took art from a museum into mine and other teachers classrooms. In the past I've taught church classes to children, youth, and adults. For over 40 years I've directed, and produced many cultural arts events for my local church community including "Arts in the Park" and the Broadway play "State Fair". In those years I wrote, choreographed, costumed, and created scenery for many skits or plays. When my children were in school, I was always active in the local PTA or PTSA groups, which included service as president of a Junior High PTSA.

What is the Atonement of Jesus Christ? Why was it necessary for Jesus Christ to sacrifice His life?

Gerri
The hope of living with my Heavenly Father and my earthly family gives me peace. Since Jesus Christ was the only one capable to taking His life up again and the only perfect being born of a Heavenly and an earthly parent, He only could atone for our sins. He only could be the ultimate sacrifice for our sins. Show more Show less
