Hi I'm Joseph

I'm from Utah and love music and reading. I compete in math competitions and went to math camp. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

As a member of an active family, I have grown to really love the outdoors. I have been on many camping trips and love to hike and bike. I love trying new outdoor activities! This past winter I went on my first down hill skiing trip! I also love to play sports! Soccer and hockey are some of my favorite sports. I also love music! I've played the piano and still play the viola. I also sing. I love classical music, and some of my favorite composers are Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninov, but really I love all classical music. Probably my favorite instrument to listen to is the piano, but I have recently found a new joy in opera! I love to learn, and school is really fun for me. I recently finished my high school studies, and will be leaving for my mission in Frankfurt, Germany on June 18. My interests in school vary widely, and many things are intriguing to me. Some of them include economics, music, history, literature, linguistics, mathematics, biology, chemistry, and physics. When I return from my mission I hope to chose an interest that will help to support a family and that I will enjoy. Mathematics is one of the subjects that I have really enjoyed while in high school. I was able to participate for two years in my schools math club, and as part of that club tutored other math students and competed at competitions. I also had the opportunity to go to a math camp hosted by the Park City Math Institute (PCMI).

Why I am a Mormon

Being a Mormon as really changed my life. I grew up in the church, and had wonderful parents and family members who were all spiritually strong people. Because of this I always went to church, and really knew a lot about the church and our doctrines. However, as I have grown up, I have really come to know what being a Mormon means to me. First, the church brings me hope! Because of our belief in repentance and forgiveness, I have come to find joy as I have repented and received forgiveness through the atonement of Jesus Christ. The church as helped me work past challenges. It has given me the fortitude needed to face the trials in my life. I know that Jesus Christ can help me to

How I live my faith

One of the things that I love to do as part of my faith is visiting other church members. Every month I go with another male adult and visit two families. We talk to them, and make sure that they are doing alright. We share a little message to inspire and uplift and end with a pray. I also have the opportunity to visit with members of our church who were unable to come to church due to illness or age. At the end of all our meetings, I and another one of the boys my age takes our sacrament to these sick or elderly. This is a great privilege for me and is one of the things that I really enjoy doing. I love to see the smiles on their faces when we come to there homes to visit with them. It is also a great blessing for them because that way they are included. As on now I am part of a class of boys from ages 16 to 18. One of the opportunities that I have had in this class is to help plan activities that occur during the week and make sure that all the boys are welcomed and doing well in the spiritual lives as well as their individual lives. I take part in planning such activities as bike rides and other fun activities, service to the church members, and career exploration. I have also been able to participate in encouraging members of this class to come to church and our weekly activities. Other things that I do to participate in this group of boys is help teach our Sunday lessons. I also help to plan which lessons would be most beneficial for the boys in the class.
