Hi I'm Matthew Chatterton

I grew up in Alberta, Canada. I love the outdoors and being active. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am the youngest of 6 children in my family. I love to go hiking, camping, fishing, playing sports and staying active. I like to go on bicycle rides with my family and friends. I like working on cars and trucks and I hope someday I can restore an old truck. I also like riding motorbikes, both dirt and and on street. I like going on bike rides with my dad, brothers and other friends. I want to be a paramedic or firefighter and be able to help those people around me. I love music and I play guitar and sing a little bit, I'm also trying to learn how to play the piano. I have been a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints all of my life but like many others I had to find my faith in my own time. It took a lot of time spent searching in the scriptures and many prayers offered by my and also on my behalf for me to find my place in this existance. Throughout my life I have seen countless blessings come in to my life as a result of following gospel teachings.

Why I am a Mormon

I belong to this Church because through it I have been able to come to know of the love that God has for all of us-his children. I have been blessed so greatly in so many different ways and one way is with my loving family. We all love each other and we have a lot of fun when we are together. I continue to go to this Church because of the great spiritual feelings that I feel when I attend and participate in church meetings and other church activities.

How I live my faith

I am currently serving a mission in California and I love being able to help people come to know gospel principles for themselves. I love to study the scriptures and teachings from modern day prophets. I like to help out around the community giving service to people that are in need and helping with community projects. Before I came out on my mission I was able to help coach a wrestling team at the high school that I attended. I was able to help set up for tournaments and also be a referee from time to time. This was a great opportunity for me to give back to the community. I love being able to give of my time and talents to help others learn, grow and enjoy their time here on earth. Since I have been a missionary I have had countless opportunities to serve others. It seems like everyday there is someone new to help in a different way. Being a Mormon is not just about going to church and doing other religious things, it's also about helping those people around you, by following Christ's perfect example and lending a helping hand to those that may need it.

Why are only some Mormons allowed into temples? Is there something secret going on in Mormon temples? What goes on in Mormon temples?

Matthew Chatterton
The purpose for Temples is to learn eternal truths, make sacred covenants with our Heavenly Father and perform sacred ordincances such as baptisms for deceased persons who did not receive the opportunity to be baptized while they were living. Temples are a place where we can go and feel the Spirit of our Heavenly Father. As it says in the Book of Mormon in 1 Nephi 10:21 "No unclean thing can dwell with God". If we are not spiritually clean and prepared to be in the presence of his spirit we cannot enter in to His sacred Temples. Before a temple is dedicated however there is an open house that is held where visitors are alowed to attend. To be permitted to enter after a Temple is dedicated one must be a baptized member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and be qualified spiritually. Show more Show less

What is the Book of Mormon?

Matthew Chatterton
As it says in the introduction to the Book of Mormon, it is "a volume of holy scripture comparable to the Bible. It is a record of God's dealings with the ancient inhabitants of the America's..." The Book of Mormon is another testament that Jesus Christ lived on earth and is God's son. There are writings in it from ancient prophets similar to the Bible and also support the Bible. These prophets were lead by God and taught these ways to their children and other people around them. This book contains teachings of Jesus Christ and supports the Bible. There are many of questions that we have in life can be answered by reading the Book of Mormon. All who read it and sincerely pray about it can know of it's truthfulness by the Holy Ghost. Why do Mormon missionaries proselyte?

Matthew Chatterton
The teachings of Jesus Christ bring great joy and a better understanding of the purpose of life to those that are willing to learn and live in accordance to them. With this wonderful message comes great opportunities to show our love for not only our Heavenly Father but to those people around us as well. Missionaries seek for those people for the purpose of sharing this great message with them to help them have the same joy and happiness in their own lives. Show more Show less

Why was a Restoration of the Gospel needed? Haven’t we always had the Bible?

Matthew Chatterton
When Jesus Christ lived on the earth he set up His Church. After His death and resurrection, He left His Apostles to work here on Earth. Jesus did this through revelation and with his priesthood authority. The Apostles were later killed along with many other righteous church members. With the death of these great people came the loss of that great priesthood authority. A large influx of members around that time and no one called or authorized by God to lead them caused the true doctrines and ordinances that Christ taught to be changed and adapted to fit member's ideals. If the priesthood authority was taken from the earth wouldn't it have to be restored for the true Church of Jesus Christ to be operational? This restoration began with Joseph Smith's First Vision. In later years, the priesthood was restored and Christ's Church was reorganized. Show more Show less
