Hi I'm Leslie

I'm a distance runner. I'm a college student. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a college student studying Psychology and History. I am a distance runner. I have been running for 6 years. I sail ships with my dad. Currently I'm a missionary sharing the gospel of Christ in Spanish.

Why I am a Mormon

Though I grew up in the church there was a definite time where I needed to make a choice if I was going to remain in the church or leave a lead a different life. It was a difficult time full of a lot struggles and fall backs. When I went away to school I had the opportunity to make that choice once and for all, since I was away from my parents. I decided to go to church again and when I went I felt loved and welcome. As I prayed to God more I received a witness from the Holy Spirit that this is what I needed to do and this is where I was supposed to be. As I mopped up my life all clean, I became happier and happier. The more I kept the commandments and prayed and read the scriptures, the more happiness and peace I received. The missionaries really helped me to feel the Spirit of God in my life and remind me of the tools the Lord has given us to have happiness, peace, and a direction in life.\ I took it a step further a decided to go on a mission. Here I am now. The happiest I have ever been giving back to the Lord. I am out here for two reasons. First because I love my God and I love my Savior, Jesus Christ, with all my heart and will be forever grateful for what he has done in my life. Secondly, because of the great joy and feelings of being clean and free again that I have experienced as a result of knowing and living the restored gospel of Jesus Christ, I wanted, more than anything in the entire world, to share the gospel with anyone who would be willing to listen so they can have that chance that I had, to pray about it and make a choice for themselves. I love my Savior and friend, Jesus Christ and all that he has done for me. That he atoned for my sins and the sins and sufferings of all mankind. Because of Him I am not afraid. Because of Him I have a hope for a better & brighter world, & right now I am the happiest I have ever been. I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that Jesus is the Christ, that this is His restored gospel upon the earth and God loves us.

How I live my faith

I have worked with the women in the Young Single Adult branch in organizing activities and in checking up on their well-being. When I was younger I worked with the local animal shelter to help adopt out dogs, clean kennels, take them on walks, and train them to help them more easily be adopted. Right now, I'm serving a full time mission and devoted all my time, energy, and thoughts into serving the Lord and all people in my assigned area. I love it! All I do is help people out and invite people to come unto Christ; it's really awesome. I strive to learn this new language and share the message of the restored gospel to people in their native language. it's hard but sharing the gospel to people is so important that I've come all this way to share the message in a language I could barely speak at first. Everyday holds new experiences and challenges, and everyday I try to be a better person. It definitely isn't the easiest task but day by day I strive to improve myself with little baby steps.

Do Mormons only help Mormons?

Mormons help everyone they can. Christ commanded us to love one another, therefore it is always important to be helping others. The church donates a lot of money in cash and material assistance in 167 different countries since 1985 and it is never exclusively for members. As well, there are over 80,000 Mormon missionaries serving throughout the world today. As one of those missionaries, I can promise you that missionaries main purpose is to serve every one and invite others to come unto Christ, so naturally a very large portion of the work we do is to help people who aren't Mormon. In addition to that, many of the members donate time to cleaning up the community including houses of those who are not members of the church. Show more Show less

Why do Mormon missionaries proselyte?

Throughout time, God has told his people to share His word. The Savior taught his disciples over and over again to preach the gospel to every living thing. Because the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is the restored gospel of Christ, we want to do as he commanded and share the good news to all who are willing to listen. I know that I came out on a mission because of two things: 1) I love my Heavenly Father and I love His Son, Jesus Christ. Therefore, I want to serve them with all my mind, might, heart and strength, and to keep the commandments and share their love with the world. 2) I know that the church is true and that I have received such a fullness of joy of Christ's gospel. So I want everyone to have a chance to experience that same happiness that I have. The Lord loves all his children so He sends full-time volunteer missionaries to all places in the world to invite others to come unto Christ and to serve the people. As missionaries, they try to talk to everyone to find those interested in learning more about the Jesus Christ and God's plan of happiness. Missionaries serve for 18 months to two years.
