Hi I'm Alima

I'm a passionate learner and an adventurer. I grew up in New York City and Connecticut. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Right now I'm a college student. I love it. In high school I was interested in everything because I'm a passionate learner. I loved math, I was on the math team. I loved english, I'm a huge writer. I loved physics and history. It was all fascinating to me. My senior year I got especially into poetry and statistics. I wrote a ton of poetry and became well known amongst my friends as a poet. At the same time I was exposed to spoken word poetry or slam poetry and got really into performing my poetry. I even had the opportunity to be a commencement speaker at my high school graduation and perform a poem about how we grow up and can follow our dreams. I also got really into statistics my senior year and thought that I would major in statistics, then a few weeks before my first day of college I started to consider the finance major. I got a really good feeling about it, decided to switch to finance, and haven't looked back since! I took my first finance class that first semester, and now I love finance too!

Why I am a Mormon

It's pretty simple actually. When I pray and when I read my scriptures, I feel good; I feel happy. And when I live the way that this church has taught me to live, I feel happy again and things in my life just seem to work out. I could try to give a big explanation about why I continue day by day in my faith and why I'm serving a mission, but at the end of the day what really keeps me coming back is that this gospel gives me happiness. I know it's from God because I can feel it, I can feel that it is good...and all good things come from God! As I learn more and more about my faith as I grow up, the truth of it resonates it with me again and again and I cannot deny that this is the true church.

How I live my faith

My faith has always been a huge part of who I am. Growing up, a lot of the decisions I made were based on my faith. I was always different from my friends because I knew a lot about my faith and really believed it for myself. I had a lot of opportunities to lead because I active in my church. The most memorable opportunity for me was being a head camp counselor at the summer youth camp for girls. I was seventeen and I was put in charge of 23 twelve-year-old girls and six assistants. I spent the whole week of camp organizing events, spending time with the girls, comforting them, and teaching them about our church. I became like a big sister to each of them and learned what's it's like to give wholly selfless service. For a whole week it wasn't about me, it was about serving those cute girls. Now I've decided to serve a mission for my church and it's a very similar experience in a lot of ways. It's a different application of that same outward looking selfless service. I'm so excited to be a missionary!!
