Hi I'm Vickie

I am a 5th generation Californian who spent my summers on a cattle ranch during my youth. I am a medical coder and I am a Mormon.

About Me

I have 5 beautiful children and 12 gorgeous grandchildren. My favorite Sunday activity is to get the family together, share food, talk and watch the little ones play. I love feeling the rush of wind as I bike around my hometown and enjoy the great outdoors. Cooking, reading good books and watching movies based on history are favorite past times. I have enjoyed working in the medical field, first as a medical technologist and then as a medical coder. Retirement with the love of my life is my next big adventure.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I found out for myself that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is true. I had read the Bible as a child and wondered why God did not speak to us anymore through prophets. When the missionaries taught our family the gospel it felt like I was hearing something familiar even though I was hearing it for the first time. What joy filled our home when we realized that we could go to the temple and have the opportunity to be together forever as a family. Each of the four members of our family decided to be baptized. Following my baptism I was given the gift of the Holy Ghost and I received a strong spiritual witness that the church was true. Being a member of this church and living the gospel has brought great happiness and peace into my life.

How I live my faith

I love teaching the gospel and discovered that organizing a gospel lesson fills a creative niche in my life. The Holy Ghost can guide my thoughts and study as I ponder what the Lord wants us to learn on any given Sunday. I love going to the temple and being taught who I am and what I am to do in the here and now. Temple experiences give purpose to my mortal existence and teach me who I can become. It is especially wonderful to go to church and look around to see who needs a friend. What a delight to be able to bring meals in to those who are under the weather. Genealogy is a hobby that can completely suck me in. What a fun thing to know that my family is descended from the Pilgrims and I have ancestors that lived through the Revolutionary and Civil Wars of America. My husband and I recently enjoyed serving African refugees in our community who landed in America without knowing English and wondering what to buy at the grocery story. What a delight to introduce them to American customs, food and national parks.
