Hi I'm Steve

I grew up in British Guiana (now called Guyana) I came to Canada 48 years ago.

About Me

I worked for Cable and Wireless, a division of the British Post Office, as a Radio Officer for ships at sea, as well as a "Cable". I have had many careers in Canada including Realtor, Student Accredited Appraiser (A.A.C.I) passed the Uniform Final Exam. also worked as a provincial Property Tax appraiser, Life and Health Insurance Agent, with Metropolitan Life, was an accredited Member of the Saskatchewan Building Officials Association, Inc. (Municipal a\Appraiser), and my last job was as a manufacturers Representative for companies in the Industrial, and Municipal water and wastewater field like New Logic Research, developers of the VSEP system) and AquaNova engineering co-developers with Worrell Water, of the "Next Generation Living Machine", for waste water re-use. I used to enjoy Ballroom dancing (Arthur Murray) style, to the Intermediate Bronze level, and hope to get back to it in a few months. I used to play the classical guitar in my youth, and am now starting to learn to play the keyboards... my favourite songs are old Irish/Scottish ballads like "I'll be all smiles tomorrow" , Danny Boy, and modern older country songs like "Just loving you" "A Picture of Me without You""You're My Best Friend", Come Lay Down Beside me", "It's The Hardest Thing I'll Ever Have to do", and others of that type... I also like popular love songs. My favourite artists are Daniel O'Donnell, Mary Duff, Nana Mouskouri,Don Williams, Tanyk Tucker, Lorrie Morgan, Kenny Rogers, Merle Haggard..

Why I am a Mormon

I have been a searcher of religious and Spiritual truth for most of my life, and have had the privilege to know and learn from Jesuit, Dominican, and Franciscan monks,,, I have also been a member for a short time of the Seventh-Day Adventist church, and an adherent of the Mennonite Brethren Church, while my youthful best friend was a "Jehovah Witness" I became a Mormon, because I believe that Heavenly Father (God) did send people out of Jerusalem around 600 B.C, and they ended up on the Central American continent... the Kon-Tiki expedition of the 1950's proved that this was possible, and we also know that we had settlers in Northern Canada, from Greenland, many years ago.(Even during the last ice age there was a warm current passing by the coast, allowing travel on the West Coast, and we have archaeological evidence that there were people from China, and Africa, here long before Christopher Columbus). In addition, the Book of Mormon was written in a language we now call "Ancient Egyptian" which we now know was the language spoken in Jerusalem at that time, and until recently nobody in the world, and especially in the United States even knew of the existence of this language, so there was no way that in the 1800's, an uneducated boy could have invented this. In addition, even some of the witnesses who the Angel, showed the plates to and turned the pages so that they could see the hieroglyphics, even though they left the church NEVER ever recanted that they had seen the sacred plates and what was written on them. In the 1970's, a South African Professor of Languages who translated the Book of Mormon into Afrikaans, and who was one of the few world experts in "Ancient Egyptian" confirmed that this was a divinely inspired and written book.

How I live my faith

I have held a few "Callings" including Ward Clerk, and am presently the Assistant to the Ward Mission Leader. I am currently recovering from a bad case of Prostate Cancer, which was treated with Radiation Therapy, but expect to be fully mobile in a few months. I enjoy sailing with my son who is an avid large lake sailor, who sails out of Lake of the Woods, Ontario, and I hope to go sailing with him around August of this year
