Hi I'm Julia

I'm a military child. I'm serving a mission in Finland. I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I'm a college student studying nursing. I run a lot and do outdoors activities whenever I can convince someone to come with me. I love food and am convinced that living in Belgium for several years put chocolate in my veins. For as long as I can remember my family has always been going, whether that was traveling to a new country or holding our own Olympics in the backyard. This fostered a deep love for discovering new things, and learning everything that I can. This means I have a lot of embarrassing stories, but I figure if I'm going to mess up, it’s better to get a laugh out of it. I’m a happy person. I still have struggles but I know there is always a way to get through. I am currently serving a full-time mission in Finland. I love this gospel, I love my Savior, and I love my opportunity to serve.

Why I am a Mormon

My father joined the Army before I was born and this really has defined my life. I have moved at least ten times, I have lived in crazy places, and uprooting feels more natural than staying put. Even though I was used to it, moving always brought at least some fear of the unknown. But I knew one thing I never had to fear. I always knew the church would be at our next station, and that it would be the same wherever I went. Having this constant in my life was huge. When it seemed that literally everything else was falling apart, I could fall back on this gospel and find comfort and joy. Not only was the church the same, but the love from my new congregation was too. I could walk into any LDS church building (believe me I walked into many) and not understand a word of what my Spanish/Swedish/Korean sister was saying, but I could feel love and friendship. If I can find a Mormon church, I can find friends, I can find family, and I can find hope. I am a Mormon because this world can be a scary place, but we are not meant to walk it alone. We have our loving Heavenly Father and Savior Jesus Christ, and we have fellow people that struggle themselves but help us nonetheless. We have the truth here on earth and it is truly a joyous message. I’m a Mormon because I love it! I have gained a respect for myself and others that I know I couldn't find any other way, I know that it has made my family happier and closer together, and the principles we believe are filled with promise and joy. I’m a Mormon because it brings me so much love. Not only do I feel love for others, but also for myself. I know God knows and loves each of us on this earth personally, and that He listens to and answers our prayers. I’m a Mormon because I know Joseph Smith was a modern-day prophet, and that the Book of Mormon is true.

How I live my faith

My faith isn't a side note to my life, but rather a lifestyle. I live my faith by always trying to be better and to do the things I know are right. I know I’m not perfect and that is why I keep working at it and try to always be learning. I attend church regularly as well as church activities, I do not drink alcohol, I dress modestly, and I look for opportunities to serve others. I always strive to be a good example of what a Mormon is, which means I continually try to be more like Jesus Christ.
