Hi I'm Jake Nilson

My name is Jake Nilson. I am a singer, actor, dancer and Missionary, and I am a Mormon.

About Me

I love to music! Anything from Opera to following along with my favorite rapper, Eminem. I love to sing and have been singing since I was 13. I love doing theater and have done several plays and musicals including Beauty and the Beast, Aida and my favorite, Les Miserables in which I played Jean Valjean. Along with theater, I love to dance and I have taught myself how to be a pretty good Hip Hop Dancer. I love spending time with my family especially playing backyard volleyball with my Cousins. I love the outdoors and my ATV and working construction. I have been building swimming pools for the past 3 years. After my mission, I will be going to BYU Provo.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in the church and was constantly being (in my mind) pressured to live in a religion that I did not necessarily believe. My Father was always in church leadership and because his position, the kids at my school treated me differently. I enjoyed going to church and because of the Holy Ghost, I always tried to do my best. I want to perform on Broadway that is my dream and during high school this dream seemed to slip out of my hands. I became angry and I blamed god and to the point of me declaring that god was actually not there. Despite my objections my loving Mother got me to go on a trip called Heritage Tours, after my senior year ended, in which we drove across the country and stopped and saw all of the church's historical cites. As I traveled and stood where the Prophet Joseph Smith had stood The Spirit was overwhelming. This and the love of my incredible friend Riley pushed me to reread The Book of Mormon and to search if it was really true and on a bus somewhere in the middle of Wyoming, I finished The Book of Mormon and took Moroni's challenge and prayed. The spirit overwhelmed me. I am a Mormon because I have read The Book of Mormon and prayed about it. I am a Mormon because I have seen the power of Christ's loving sacrifice, The Atonement, in my life. I am a Mormon because I know that I can live with my family for eternity.

How I live my faith

I am currently serving a mission and enjoying every single minute of it. I try to use the Atonement in my life and help people around me find that same hope in their lives. I listen to the words of our living prophet and try to apply the in my life and most importantly I try to follow my Savior's example of endless love.

What is the Atonement of Jesus Christ? Why was it necessary for Jesus Christ to sacrifice His life?

Jake Nilson
The Atonement for me is an embodiment of Christ's love for us. I know that through The Atonement I can become cleansed from all my sins. Life is infinitely better knowing that there is always hope to change. Show more Show less
