Hi I'm Shalai Matagi

I live in Salt Lake City, Utah. I am half Samoan and I love being a Mormon.

About Me

I am 19 years old and just finished my first year at Utah State University. I loved it! I love reading, being active, and spending time with my family. I played volleyball for 6 years which was a blast. It helps that I am 5'11 haha. I am half Samoan and love my culture. Doing family history has helped me to love it even more and expand my knowledge of my heritage. I am a pretty laid back person who happens to be in love with Beyonce. But who isn't?

Why I am a Mormon

I have been so blessed to be born into this wonderful gospel. Although I have been born into this gospel, I have still had to make that personal choice to live it fully and be spiritually converted. I am a Mormon because I know without a doubt it is the only church on this earth that has the fulness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I have seen countless blessings in my life through obeying his commandments and having faith in his plan for me. I love knowing that there is a God and he is aware of me and my life. He only wants the best for me and loves me unconditional even with all my flaws. I know he is a merciful and just God, I have felt his forgiveness when I have repented and the happiness of being clean. I know that Joseph Smith restored this Gospel through Jesus Christ. He was led and guided to restore this church and I know Jesus Christ is the head of this church. I love how the church serves not only others, but it's members as well. Many say that they do not want to be apart of a church with so many rules and things to follow, but I love being a member of a church that cares about me in all aspects of my life. These "rules" help me to use my freedom and agency in its fullest capacity and I am so grateful for that. There is many things that I still do not fully understand or know, but I know without a doubt this church is true and I have a kind Heavenly Father who loves me.

How I live my faith

I have had different callings through out the church, in single and family wards. Callings can be hard, but are so rewarding. I have loved being able to work with the youth and plan activities that can help strengthen our testimonies. Visiting teaching is something I just was able to get involved with this past year. I never thought about the impact of importance it would have in my life. I lived away from home at Utah State and was in a single's ward. I absolutely loved being visited by the sisters in my ward and their visits were just another example of Christ's love for us. Also, having the opportunity to visit other sisters in the ward was a major blessing in my life.
