Hi I'm Jacob Colvin Walker

I'm a longboarder, a graphic designer, and a Waffle Crisp lover. I'm an Atari pro, a punk rocker- and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love Graphic design. With a passion. Photoshop and Illustrator are my tools for expressing myself. I really enjoy computer programming and web design. I'm planning on going to school to become a clinical therapist. I love helping people. I love almost any kind of board that I can get to move under my feet. Longboarding, wakeboarding, skateboarding, snowboarding, the whole deal. I got into rock climbing with my sister, and I free soloed Stewart's Peak and nearly died. It was awesome. :) I like just about any music, but I especially love rock music- bands like Yellow Card, Relient K, Blink 182, and Boxcar Racer. I play guitar, a little bit of piano, and I sing. In high school, I played football and ran hurdles on the Track team- I loved every second of it. I work on my grandpa's ranch during the summers, and I enjoy the hard work and early mornings. My faith touches every aspect of my life. I love God, and I love my Savior Jesus Christ.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because this Gospel- the Gospel of Jesus Christ, is true. The true Gospel that Jesus Christ established has been restored through the Prophet Joseph Smith, and it is on the earth today in the form of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. This church stands to administer the Gospel in truth and purity to the world. I have lived it since I was little, and through trial, my faith has become strong. I lost my faith in God once. I was looking for excuses to not have to live the commandments, So I began thinking the whole "science disproves God" train of thought. For a while, I had convinced myself that the church wasn't true and that God couldn't exist. This made my life "easier", because it meant I didn't "have to feel guilty" about all the mistakes I was making in my life. But, eventually, my mistakes caught up with me. I was miserable. Heavenly Father sent a Priesthood leader, my bishop, to show me the way back to happiness. My bishop didn't convince me of anything, he just testified to me, and the Holy Spirit testified in my heart that it was true. I was reminded of the countless times that I had felt the Holy Ghost throughout my life, testifying of God and Jesus Christ. In that moment, I realized that I could never deny the truth of this Gospel, or the existence of God. Priesthood power is real, and it is back on the earth in the same way it was when Christ lived on this earth. The prophet is a man called of God by God to lead God's true church. He is authorized to receive revelation for the earth in these latter days. I am a Mormon because the power of God is real, and it is back on the earth. It is the way to happiness, and peace. It is the way to have a meaningful life, for punk rockers and longboarders and graphic designers alike. I know this beyond any doubt. I have taken Moroni's promise in Moroni 10:4-5; I have asked God, and by the power of the Holy Ghost, I know the truth of these things.

How I live my faith

You know the thing about God? He loves us. All of us. And He has given us a map for life- that map is called the gospel. The Gospel of Jesus Christ touches every aspect of my life. Some people think that playing punk music is inconsistent with going to church- or that you can't be a longboarder and have a strong belief in Jesus Christ. I've found just the opposite- The Gospel is what gives me a direction for life. It gives me a direction, and then I use my passions (like longboarding and music) to chase that path. I live my faith by smiling. :) Staying optimistic and having hope, even when things are hard. That's the hope that Jesus Christ gives me. I live my faith by keeping lyrics meaningful and clean. I live my faith by keeping my wits about me, and staying away from drugs and alcohol. I live my faith by treating women with respect. I live my faith by realizing when I've done something wrong, and repenting. To repent is to actually change, to turn away from previous sinful behavior. I've seen the Atonement of Jesus Christ work in my life, and wash sins away. I've felt strength come from God to help me to change. The Gospel is the way to get better! It's a gospel of forgiveness, it's a gospel of change, and that's a beautiful thing. I live my faith by reading and studying the Bible and Book of Mormon every day, and by keeping close to my Heavenly Father through personal prayer. I live my faith by remembering Jesus Christ.
