Hi I'm Hugh Roberts

I am a missionary in Mexico. I am a swimmer & water polo player. I love candy. And I am a Mormon.

About Me

Almost 2 years ago, I finished my freshman year of college at a 4 year university. I play water polo for the college I attend, I love swimming competitively, going to the beach, and playing/following basketball. I worked for a medical device company in San Diego. I am currently serving a full time mission in Veracruz, Mexico (9 July, 2014 to 29 June, 2016) and I am loving every moment of it. I strive to do the will of the Lord, repent daily, and preach the gospel with power and authority.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because this church is the only true church upon the face of the earth. The same church that our Savior, Jesus Christ, established has been restored in these days. The evidence of such is the Book of Mormon. When I was in college and the time was fast approaching to begin filling out my paperwork to go on a mission, I stopped myself and second-guessed what I was doing. Up until that time I had somewhat depended on the people around me for my faith in the church. I have loved the Lord from the moment I began learning about him. I felt the Spirit quietly testify the truthfulness to me throughout my life. However, I am a very logical person, and I concluded that to sacrifice 2 years of my life in a mission, I would need to KNOW that the church is true. Near the end of the Book of Mormon, it promises that if you read it and sincerely pray about it--with the intent of following your answer--that you will receive a feeling in your heart about the truthfulness of that book. I began to read. I didn't finish the whole thing, but when it came time for me to know whether the church was true or not, I got on my knees and prayed. I prayed fervently to the Lord, that he would witness unto me the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon. The feeling that I felt, the love of God that I experienced, and the manifestation of truth that I received was undeniable. I know this church is true. I know, that because the Book of Mormon is true, so is the rest of this church. I challenge you to take the small amount of your time to find out for yourself. I have now learned that the Lord has blessed me even more abundantly for this "sacrifice". Serving a mission is a priviledge and I am so grateful for it. When we put the Lord and his commandments before ALL things, we are truly happy. I can honestly say that I am truly happy. For that very reason, I am a member of the Church.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by simply trying to be the best person I can at all times and in all places. I study my scriptures every day. I try to pray constantly. I do these things not because it is habit, but because I want to improve my personal relationship with my Heavenly Father. To do so, I put in practice the things I learn in the scriptures, from living prophets, and the things that are manifested to me by the Holy Ghost. I always keep the final goal in mind: return to Heavenly Father and be clean enough to stay there with him. I have learned that one of the best ways to improve our life is to serve others. Anytime we are tired or depressed, we must reach out to find someone who is more tired, or more depressed, and lend a hand of love.
