Hi I'm Emily

I grew up in New Mexico. I'm a first degree black belt studying Electrical Engineering and physics at BYU. I'm a Mormon

About Me

I have a wonderful mother and father, two older brothers, and a slightly younger twin sister. Both of my brothers and my father served missions in Europe, and m sister and I are currently serving missions in Asia. I grew up in Rio Rancho, New Mexico, and attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah for one year before I began an eighteen-month proselyting mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. In my free time, I enjoy reading just about anything I can get my hands on, practicing Shotokan karate, doing physics with my father, and playing Scrabble with my sister.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, but it wasn't until I started high school that I truly became converted to the gospel of Jesus Christ. I had always done what was expected as a member, but it was more out of a sense of duty, and wanting to follow the rules than true belief. As I started to mature more, I decided that if I was going to be a member of this religion, I needed to know that it was true for myself, otherwise there was no point in doing all of the things I did. After starting to read the Book of Mormon in earnest, and praying with real intent, I begin to form a testimony of the truth of this gospel. My testimony is a work in progress still, but i can say with confidence that i know that this church is true. It is because of this sure testimony that I decided to serve an eighteen month mission. This gospel brings me so much happiness, and I want the people that I love to have the opportunity to share in this great joy.

How I live my faith

My faith is an integral part of my life. I live my faith by remembering Jesus Christ and all that he has done for me every day. I live my faith to the best of my ability. Every day, I am reminder of the fact that I am far from perfect! I live my faith with an understanding that I will make mistakes, but because of the Atonement of Jesus Christ, I can repent, be forgiven, and find peace.

What is being a Mormon like?

Emily
Being a Mormon is awesome! A common misconception is that being Mormon is just following a lot of rules. This couldn't be further from the truth. Being a Mormon makes me so happy, and it's because of all of the commandments. The commandments that we are given keep me safe from temptation, and show me how to obtain true, pure, and everlasting joy. Show more Show less
