Hi I'm Amy

I'm a folklorist. I love to jam on the front porch. I'm a Mormon

About Me

I recently graduated with a master's in folklore and now teach folklore and composition classes at the university level. I love to run, do yoga, hike, camp, and generally be outside in nature. The sun is one of my best friends! My husband and I got married six months ago and are excited to start a family soon. In the meantime, I fill my days working, knitting, being outside, reading, and watching crime dramas on TV. We love to cook together and try new things. We've both traveled outside of the US a little bit, spending time in Central America and Europe for extended visits, and hope to visit every continent together.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because I feel the peace of the gospel message in my life every day (when I'm living as I should be). I love the hope my understanding of Christ's plan for us brings me. I know I once lived with my Heavenly Parents and that I'll be able to live with Christ and my Heavenly Father again through Christ's Atonement. Jesus Christ's sacrifice makes me a better person, and I feel His love not only in church, but in everything I do, as long as I am doing my part to follow him. I have faith that His grace is sufficient for me, and through Him, I know I can be perfected. I also know that, because of Him, I can be with my new husband forever. There is so much joy, hope, and peace in knowing that if we pass on, we will see each other again as husband and wife. I love the temples and the sweet peace found there. I have a testimony that the temples are literally houses of God, where we can be closer to Him than anywhere else on the earth. The temple is a marvelous, beautiful place that my husband and I frequent regularly. Being there strengthens our conviction that God lives, that Christ is His Son and died for us, and the experience and our conviction brings us closer together as a couple as we share the things we've learned with each other. I also love the Book of Mormon. Whenever I read it, I feel the warm feelings of the Holy Spirit telling me it is true and that God loves me. I have also prayed many times to know it was true and have received a sure knowledge that it is of God, not man or the Devil. It's teachings bring me closer to the Savior, just as the New Testament does. The feelings are the same, and I know they both contain true doctrine. Above all, the Gospel makes sense logically and spiritually and makes me whole.

How I live my faith

I love being active at church! Every time I move to a new place, it takes some adjusting, but with a little bit of effort on my part (I tend to be an introvert socially), I find close, warm friendships at church that help me feel loved. I have done a number of things to keep the congregation going. I love to teach and have taught new members' classes and the women's organization on Sundays. I also love visiting with the sisters I'm assigned to visit, taking them meals when they need and just being their friend. We are a close group of sisters because of the service we do together.
