Hi I'm Whitney

I'm a student. I'm a future elementary school teacher. I'm a Harry Potter nerd, Jane Austen lover & U of U fan! I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in a family with four girls where Disney, princesses, and Harry Potter dominate most conversations. I enjoy reading for fun, mostly children's books. I am studying to be an elementary school teacher at the University of Utah. Last summer I lived in Southern Mexico and taught English. I learned to LOVE the Mexican culture, the food, dancing, and family life. I lived with a wonderful host family there! I also got the opportunity to travel which is a new found passion of mine. I love history so the ruins down in Mexico where one of my favorite places to visit. I just recently married my sweetheart Sam, and we are living the dream as "poor married college students." We enjoy hiking, watching sports together, movies and of course eating good food!

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I have prayed about the teachings of the church and I know that they are true. I know that through my own experiences that following God's commandments and His prophets brings happiness, peace, and comfort. I know that through God's tender mercies I am where I am today and that I have been richly blessed with safety and many choice opportunities in life. I am grateful for the challenges in my life that have helped me to turn to my Heavenly Father for help and comfort and I know that through the atonement I have been able to make changes in my life to become a better person. I love the gospel because it shares with me the plan my Heavenly Father has for me and for all of His children. I know that we are all Children of God who lived with Him before we came to earth and that by following His commandments, receiving the ordinances of the gospel and living faithfully throughout our lives that we can return and live with Him again. I say these things in the name, Jesus Christ, Amen.

How I live my faith

I love the gospel and the peace that brings by doing little daily things in my life that keep me close to Heavenly Father. Praying and reading scriptures bring a lot of peace and joy. While I could be doing better to do these every day, I know that when I do I feel closer to the spirit. I enjoy serving with the women in my neighborhood and right now in my apartment complex. I enjoy visiting one on one with them to talk, share spiritual thoughts, and to serve them. For me the best day of the week is Sunday! It is the day of the week where I can go to church and "recharge my spiritual battery." The spirit is always present there and if I prepare myself through prayer I can feel the spirit and get answers to questions or worries I have. At church I particularly love gathering with the women where we can share our thoughts and experiences with each other. We share and talk about the gospel and discuss ways we can serve and live the gospel better.
