Hi I'm Brooklyn

I'm deaf, a world traveler, an animal lover, and I'm a Mormon

About Me

I have spent my whole life living in Utah. I am the youngest of three children. I was born hearing and became sick when I was ten days old because I was overdosed with a medication that caused me to lose my hearing. I grew up with hearing aids until I receive my first Cochlear Implant when I was 11 and second one when I was 14. I learned to speak English and do American Sign Language. I am currently 19 years old. I attended Utah Valley University and plan to major in Zoology/Marine Biology. I have a huge passion for animals especially tigers and dolphins. I love to exercise and I am addicted to basketball and running. I also love to travel the world and learn different languages and cultures. I am now preparing to serve a mission in the New York New York South Mission speaking Mandarin Chinese. I will be leaving July 23, 2014.

Why I am a Mormon

I was a Beehive President, Laurel President, Miss LaVerkin, and part of the Stake Girls Camp Committee with 4 other leaders looking after about 300 girls. I knew that I had to be a better leader because they were looking up to me. I knew I had to be a positive example to others. By saying my prayers, reading my scriptures and serving others I feel closer to Christ. We each have the light of Christ with us. “Live it, love it, and embrace it.”

How I live my faith

I grew up as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints believing that the church was true. I grew up knowing the difference between right and wrong. I just believed what I heard in the church and from my family growing up. Many of us have doubts about the church at different times in our lives. I never had any doubt about anything until I went to college. It was a struggle as I had to learn for myself if the gospel was true. Going through hard experiences, praying and receiving answers and blessings from our Heavenly Father gave me my own testimony. I can never deny that this gospel is true.
