Hi I'm Seth

I grew up on a farm in Idaho. I have a lovely wife and three girls. I'm a triathlete, a BYU fan, an educator, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I enjoy spending time with my family, working as a curriculum developer and higher education instructor, and athletics. I am married to a wonderfully talented and beautiful woman, who is my best friend and running partner and have three sweet little daughters. I have completed two marathons, and two triathlons, and am hoping to complete more endurance types of races in the future. I love music and reading and enjoy watching college football, especially the Brigham Young University Cougars and The Ohio State University Buckeyes!

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I have felt the redeeming power of the Savior's Atonement take effect in my life. I know that Jesus Christ is my Savior and that His Gospel has been restored in its fullness through the Prophet Joseph Smith. In addition, I have felt the Holy Spirit confirm to me the truthfulness of the Gospel as contained in both the Book of Mormon and the Bible. I enjoy having the peace and satisfaction that living the principles of the Gospel has brought to me and to my family. As a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I enjoyed serving others by testifying to them of the message of the Restored Gospel. Watching them feel the power of the Atonement take effect in their lives and become disciples of Christ has been a tremendous privilege and blessing. Lastly, I am grateful for the Plan of Salvation, found in the scriptures, that enables my family to become an eternal family through the power of Christ's Priesthood and through sacred covenants that I have made with my wife and with Heavenly Father as we were married for time and all eternity in His holy temple. I know that this is the true Gospel of Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

I serve as a sort of guidance counselor and instructor of the young men in my local ward (congregation). As such, other leaders and I will often take the young men on Scouting camp outs throughout the long winter months here in Idaho. Though I am not sure how much we all enjoy sub freezing, snowy camp outs, they do make fascinating stories later...much later through the rosy lenses of the distant past =). In addition, I help to facilitate lessons and discussions among the youth on Sundays at Church. In this capacity, I switch roles between guide and instructor. The youth prepare lessons and share their testimonies about the Savior and the Gospel with each other. This helps them to both gain a greater understanding of principles of the Gospel and also to gain a deeper testimony of them as they teach and testify to their peers. My role is to model how to teach on occasion, give feedback to the youth regarding their teaching and how to improve, and to share insights from my experience and testimony of the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ.

What blessings can you receive from reading the Book of Mormon, the Bible, and other scriptures?

In the Introduction of the Book of Mormon, it states: Concerning this record [The Book of Mormon] the Prophet Joseph Smith said: “I told the brethren that the Book of Mormon was the most correct of any book on earth, and the keystone of our religion, and a man would get nearer to God by abiding by its precepts, than by any other book" (parentheses added). Though this may strike some as sounding odd or hyperbolic, I know that this is true. There is a definitive feeling of peace that comes as I purposefully read the Book of Mormon. In fact, in 2005, President Gordon B. Hinckley, then the prophet of the Church, promised us: "Brothers and sisters, without reservation I promise you that if you will prayerfully read the Book of Mormon, regardless of how many times you previously have read it, there will come into your hearts an added measure of the Spirit of the Lord. There will come a strengthened resolution to walk in obedience to his commandments, and there will come a stronger testimony of the living reality of the Son of God". This has happened in my life and continues to happen as I read the scriptures. Recently, I have been reading the Old Testament again and have found this same peace and satisfaction come as I have been reading of Joseph of Egypt and his resolution to keep Heavenly Father's commandments no matter what circumstances he found himself in.
