Hi I'm Emily

I grew up in a small town in Oregon. I attend Brigham Young University. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am in my Junior year of college at Brigham Young University. I am majoring in Bioinformatics, which is computer programming for large scale science databases. Pretty much I help keep scientists organized and help them figure out what the data means.I love playing the piano, knitting and reading books. I love watching movies and TV. Especially action adventure movies. My favorite is either Avatar or Knight and Day.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in the church but I still had to figure out if it really was what I wanted to do with my life. In high school I was sort of an outcast for it. No one invited me to anything or wanted to do anything with me because I didn't want to join them in drinking or other things. I saw a few of my friends who grew up in the church decide that they didn't want it anymore. I'm sad they chose that way but they were still my friends and I loved them unconditionally. One thing that I always noticed is that their life became a lot more complicated and full of drama. and I could see that they weren't as happy and carefree as they used to be. Part of that may have been from just growing up but I think a larger part is they left something that brought so much joy and happiness. Between this and my own personal study and prayer I came to value the things that I was taught and saw the happiness it brings. I saw someone turn his life around completely after finding out about my faith and learning the things I know to be true. I haven't had a huge life altering journey where one day I woke up and just knew that this was his gospel. I saw it work in the lives of people and even in my own life. By looking at the details and recognizing that God was making in happen so I could be the best I could be and the happiest made the difference and his love for me is why I am a Mormon. He gives me the guidelines and the help I need to get through the struggles and trials that have made me a better person. He was my friend when I had none and has never let me down. Through prayer I've found out what he wants me to do and I've been blessed so much by listening to his answers even when it wasn't the answer I wanted to hear. I am a Mormon because this really is a gospel about you! The worldly things like what job you have or how much you make a year doesn't matter to God and it doesn't matter in his church because we are all equal and everyone is important.

How I live my faith

I have been called to serve in the South Dakota Rapid City mission and to bring people to Christ. During my time before leaving I've been teaching the little children. Before doing that I would help organize all of the youth activities like the dances and area conferences. I would set up take, down and brainstorm about what would be the most fun and uplifting. I have also been a choir pianist. That was really fun to help the choir and to get better at playing at the same time. I really live my faith in the little things I do everyday like reading my scriptures, praying and helping all those in need.
