Hi I'm Kelsey Layton

I'm a hiker, an artist, I'm deaf, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in Utah with a family of 7. I was raised in the church, and loved it. I love art, and hope to someday be a graphic designer. My dream would be to work in NYC, where I currently live. I love anything else that allows me to use my creative juices. Oh, and mountains, I love them! Hiking is my #1 thing :) If it's snowing, I love to snowshoe! My dad taught me how to enjoy backpacking through the wilderness and fishing. I'm also passionate about cloud watching, running, and golfing. Something interesting about me: I'm deaf. Well, I can hear now, but legally I'm deaf. At age 5 I started to lose my hearing and continued to lose it until at age 12 I was 100% deaf. I have since then received a cochlear implant, and do remarkably well with it! I never learned ASL until recently, and I love it. As of now I'm taking an 18 month break from college, which I've completed 1 year of, and am serving a mission in New York. My purpose here is to invite others to come unto Christ!

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because I KNOW the Book of Mormon is true. I've read it and prayed about it. I continue to read it everyday, and as I do so, my faith builds stronger. The Book of Mormon is the keystone of our church. Because I know the Book of Mormon is true, I know that Joseph smith was and is a prophet, and he truly did restore Christ's church. I didn't always know this. I always believed, but I can't say I KNEW until I had the beautiful privilege of taking a tour of the Sacred a grove in Palmyra, New York. That is where Joseph smith was Called to be a prophet in these days as well as restore Christ's perfect gospel. As I stood there in this grove of trees, I prayed. I felt at that moment so much peace. So much knowing. I knew the church was true. I'm so grateful for our Savior, Jesus Christ! I know that through Christ we can overcome ANYTHING. he has felt all that we feel. Through him we can overcome sin and have second chances. I know he is always ready to forgive us when we repent. This knowledge is important to me because it gives me peace knowing that my sins can be washed away and I will someday be able to live with my Heavenly Father again!

How I live my faith

Right now I am living my faith by serving as a full time missionary for 18 months. I took a break from college and was called to serve in the New York New York South mission, preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ in American Sign Language. Christ was my full motivation to embark on this mission, and it's the best decision I ever did make! I know that there is no greater task than to help others grow closer to Him and feel of His love!
