Hi I'm Gaby

I grew up in Minnesota and Malaga, Spain. I will be serving a mission to McAllen, Texas. I like mint ice cream. I am a Mormon.

About Me

My favorite sports are tennis and snowboarding. I am a musician, and I actively play cello and bass. I am a student at BYU; I am studying Computer Science and I might minor in English. I enjoy a lot of different forms of art such as drawing, making wire sculptures, and making chainmaille jewelry. I love math and science, but I also enjoy creative writing. I love to read. Some of my favorite authors are Alexander Dumas, Jules Verne, Kurt Vonnegut, and Terry Pratchett. When I was little I loved reading the Redwall books by Brian Jacques. I also enjoy gaming; my favorite games are probably Starcraft and Portal. As far as music goes, I like a lot of things. A few of my favorites are stuff like Guns and Roses, Bon Jovi, some Jethro Tull. I also like Michael Jackson and more contemporary pop like Imagine Dragons or One Republic. Celtic music is pretty fun too. I love astronomy and stargazing.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in a Mormon family, so I was baptized when I was eight years old. It is hard to pin-point a time when I really gained a testimony, or a knowledge that there is a loving God up there who loves us and cares for us. This is pretty typical of people raised in Mormon families. Our conversions often happen slowly as we grow up reading the scriptures, praying, and learning about Christ during meetings at church. Just like everybody else out there, I am still learning and growing spiritually, or gaining more specific testimonies of principles and how they help us, but I do have a firm belief that this is all true. I know that you and I are children of a loving Heavenly Father. I know that he sent his son, Jesus Christ, to the earth to atone for our sins, or make it possible for us to repent and become perfect. I know that God calls prophets now as he did before, and I know that they have been inspired by the Holy Ghost to write scriptures that contain truths. I know that the Book of Mormon was written by prophets, and I know that Joseph Smith translated it and restored the same church that Christ instituted when he was on the earth. I know that God is merciful, and that if we do our best to keep his commandments we will return to live with him forever. This is why I am a Mormon. I am a Mormon because I have gained a testimony that is still growing. Over time I have seen the blessings that being a member have given me. I have seen how living a Mormon has made me a happier and stronger person. It does not hurt to try it out, maybe you too can know these things and also become happier. That is why I am going to serve a mission, because this has made me happy and I want to share it with other people. God bless you.

How I live my faith

I am currently preparing to serve a full-time, LDS mission to McAllen, Texas in spanish. I leave in a few weeks and will be serving until December of 2015. In the past I have been a leader among the youth (adolescents between the ages 12 and 18) and I have also been responsible for coordinating music activities that involve the youth.
