Hi I'm Calvin W. McCausland

I grew up in Spanish Fork, Utah. I graduated from Brigham Young University with a PhD in chemistry. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am recently retired. I have a PhD in Organic Chemistry from Brigham Young University. For most of my career I worked in the research and development of dietary supplements. I served 5 years active duty in the US Air Force, another 17 years in the Air Force reserves as a meteorologist and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. In 1960 and 1961 I served in the Union of South Africa as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. During the course of my life I have had the opportunity to visit more than 80 countries around the world. I enjoy meeting people and learning from them and also sharing information with them. My hobbies are reading (favorite topics are gospel studies, history, and science) gardening, home improvement, auto repair, wood working and fishing.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I have a testimony of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ as it was restored in this dispensation to the prophet Joseph Smith. The Church of Jesus Christ with its apostles, prophets and the priesthood has been restored as it was in the new testament times of the Bible and is now called The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. The ordinances such as baptism for both the living and the dead, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, ordination to the priesthood and eternal marriage have been restored in their true order. l am a Mormon because it is a way of life that brings joy and happiness. The teachings of the Church lead one to a better life of righteous behaviors like honesty, loving your neighbor, service to others, serving our God and obeying all the commandments of our Savior, whom I love and try to emulate. There is like the Bible a second witness of Christ and it is call the Book of Mormon. It help me better understand what is expected of me and how to best live my life. And, I know the Book of Mormon to be true as revealed to me by the Spirit of the Holy Ghost. During my life I have spent considerable time in studying the restored gospel and it is the only church that has the revealed answers as to: where did we come from, why are we here and where are we going? And, the answers are profound. I have had during my life the blessing of sharing the gospel with others and have observed the joy it has brought into their lives and the lives of their family members. As stated in the Bible concerning the Saints - By their fruits ye shall know them. I have seen the fruits of a better life in my own life and in the lives of the other members of the Church.

How I live my faith

I like to help other such as yesterday which was Saturday when 10 members of our church volunteered to help a young family load a rental truck with their household good for a move out of our area. And, yesterday when I had the opportunity to help my next door neighbor, an elderly gentleman who moved in about a year ago, who asked me to help plant his garden, care for his lawn and rid some of his property of weeds. During the 4 plus hours we accomplish a lot and became even better friends. Monday we will spread mulch on his lawn to strengthen it and get it into better shape. I have found that by helping others blessing come into my life. During my business career I had the opportunity to bring a better means of life to several thousand people on a foreign country. By putting them first it prospered them and I also come back to prosper me and my family.
