Hi I'm Jared Dement

Howdy! I'm from Corpus Christi, Texas. I'm a college student/football player, a mixed martial artist, and I'M A MORMON!

About Me

I will be a full-time missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on the 21st of May! I'm tremendously excited about these next two years to serve the people of Argentina! I'm a football player, I played college ball in Oklahoma for a D2 school and our team won conference championship. I have been studying Business Management and hope to continue my education in Petroleum Engineering after my mission. I grew up doing martial arts and it it still a big part of my life today. I have experience in American Karate, MMA, Krav Maga, KFM, BJJ, and tactical weapons training. I have the best family in this world, whom I picked out myself in the pre-existence. Six crazy siblings with a loving mother, father, and step mother!

Why I am a Mormon

Well I am a Mormon because I was born Mormon. HOWEVER, I equally credit the fact that I truly tested my own faith as I left home for college for the first time. Once I left, I was free. Up until then, I was just a obedient son who went to church with his parents to get them off my back. I left my home state so I no longer had any ties to the LDS church, so I started experimenting other religions and what they had to offer...I put my faith to the test. I did exactly as the scriptures prompts us to do, ask my Heavenly Father with a sincere and broken heart and a contrite spirit if these things are true. I worked as a bridge painter after my first year of college which required me to travel a lot. I worked in nine different states and as I would go to random LDS churches the Spirit of the Lord confirmed his answer to me again, and again, and again. I could no longer doubt even the slightest bit, that I always belonged to the true church of Jesus Christ. This gospel offers so much knowledge of our Heavenly Father because it is His church. The Plan of Salvation is beautiful and has strengthened my personal relationship and brought me incredibly close to my Father in Heaven.

How I live my faith

I love participating in church activities. There is a quote I like that relates to how I feel towards how I live my faith. "We do live in the world, but we do not have to live of the world." -Quentin L. Cook It is easy for me to get caught up in a spiritually numbing routine of worldly activities with the type of crowd I am exposed to daily. Attending sacrament meetings on Sunday is awesome, however there are 6 days in between each church meeting. For me an extra spiritual dose really keeps me in tune with the spirit and allows me to have His constant companionship. Youth activities, family home evening, community projects are a few activities the church provides for that ever so important balance of the pure love of Christ in my heart!
