Hi I'm Derrick Meijsen

I'm a Mormon, and have been since I was 11. I grew up in Gauteng, South Africa. I am serving a mission in Cape Town, South Africa.

About Me

I have one sister and a mom and dad, I am serving a mission at the moment. I hope to be able to study to become either a chartered accountant / Medical Doctor / Pilot. I'm not sure what I want to do, so hopefully I will know in two years time. I love reading and playing video games, I am a total couch patato.

Why I am a Mormon

I have been a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for 8 years now. I know that without this gospel I would not be the person I am today and that this gospel is everything good. Every commandment we follow is for either our own health or to discipline our minds to have control over our own decisions and make good choices that not only benefit us but also benefits those around us. I know that the Book of Mormon is true and that Jesus Christ suffered for our sins in the garden of Gethsemane and that without that sacrifice, we would not be able to return back to our Heavenly Father. I know that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ live, and that they love us and only want what is best for us. We are sometimes given trials and tribulations so that we can become stronger people and Christians, and so that we can be the support of someone else who is going through the same thing. Through prayer we can communicate with our Father in Heaven and if we ask Him in faith He will give us an answer to whatever questions we might have. When I was eleven my parents decided that we had to join a religion, and my father told my mother that if there is a religion to join than it is the church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints, and eighteen years previous to that my grandmother had joined this church and has ever since tried to get my parents interested in this gospel, but my parents hadn't felt ready to join the church. So when the time came my parents decided to join and my grandmother contacted the missionaries and they came and taught us all about the gospel and how it blesses families. I started my conversion the day I was baptized and still eight years later I am learning so much every day. Conversion is not a one time thing it is a constant thing that takes a lifetime to accomplish.

How I live my faith

Well, I am serving a mission for my church, which basically means I teach the gospel of Jesus Christ to whoever is willing to listen and serve those who are in need of service. I love my mission and serving people because it just brings me joy, I can be lazy at times but whenever I do the effort I enjoy working hard. I found that prayer is such an important part of living your faith and that just helping others is the best way to show your gratitude to God.
