Hi I'm Jake

I am serving a mission in Salt Lake City, Utah and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

In June of 2014 I left to serve a mission in the Salt Lake City Central mission. I left behind family, friends, school, and a 1968 Mustang named Shelly and don't regret leaving at all. Ever since I was little I have loved classic cars. I have played basketball since the womb and have a mad love for the Denver Broncos. I live by the beautiful eastern Rockies and love to hike, climb, raft and bike through them. I have the best family in the world and I am not sure what I would do without them.

Why I am a Mormon

First of all, it is the quest of a life time to determine what is true. To say I know without a doubt that this church is true would be wonderful, but I am not sure how many people can honestly say it. However, I do believe that this church is true. I did not always care about religion, but when I had to care to pass a class I began to really study the Book of Mormon. Through the course of that semester who I was and my perspective on life changed. If it is true that "by their fruits ye shall know them", then the fruits of the Book of Mormon give me knowledge that it is true, that it is of God. Nothing else has ever driven me to be better every day. When there are so many people in the world that are content with where they are, that don't think they need improvement or change, that motivation is so important. In short, I am a Mormon because it makes me a better person and because I believe it to be true.

How I live my faith

Living your faith is a day by day process. In the end, it is not the big things we do that shows our faith, it is the small things. I live my faith every day by beginning my day with a prayer. Showing God that we love Him and that we need Him in our lives is the start of faith. I show my faith in God's plan by constantly trying to improve. I have never been perfect, and probably never will be. But as I work on one thing at a time and use the atonement of Jesus Christ daily I show God that I have faith that through Him I can change for the better. I live my faith by doing my best to be my best and helping others do the same.

What do Mormons believe concerning the doctrine of grace?

It is a common misconception that Mormons think they can "work their way to heaven." This is simply not true. We believe that only through grace can we be saved. However; he has given us ways to access that grace already that we look to utilize through repentance. Striving to follow the Lord's commandments shows him our willingness and desire to become more like him. We can never be perfect, so we will always need grace, but we can do our best to listen to and follow his teachings. Show more Show less
