Hi I'm Kristen

I'm from North Carolina and just finished my freshman year at BYU. I will be serving a mission in Lyon, France.

About Me

I love being outdoors doing just about anything from playing soccer, to hiking, to riding a bike. I always have music playing, whether that's on the radio or playing my violin. I love to cook, and I love watching movies. My favorite way to spend my time is with my family, because they mean everything to me. I'm the second child in my family. I have an older sister and brother-in-law, and a younger sister and brother. I just finished up my freshman year of college at BYU. I absolutely loved it there! I made so many friends and I loved going to things like the football and basketball games. It was a great environment for learning and growing, both academically and spiritually.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Christian because I believe that Jesus Christ was once on the earth and atoned for my sins and pains, because He loves me. I am a Mormon because I believe that Christ still lives, and that He still loves me. I know that God once spoke through the prophets of old times, like Moses or Abraham. But I know that God still provides prophets for us today. He has not forgotten us, and will never stop giving us loving guidance and direction. I know that God didn't just give us one source of His word through the Bible, but that He also testifies of His coming to the ancient inhabitants of North America. This is done through the Book of Mormon, which I know to be another testament of Jesus Christ's gospel, and that it and the Bible together give me the fullness of His gospel. I know that after Christ's death, there was a period of time where there wasn't His true gospel on the earth, which made it so it had to be restored through one of the Lord's chosen vessels. I know that this was done through a faithful young man, Joseph Smith. Through the power of God, he was able to translate the ancient Egyptian plates that contained the scriptures found in the Book of Mormon, and that because of this doctrine, the true church of Christ could be restored to the earth. I know that we must have faith in God. We must pray to Him because He knows exactly what we're going through and He wants to help us, and that in His own time, He will answer. I know that we must repent of our sins, and even though Christ atoned for our sins so that He can understand what we're going through, we must still repent to be made clean again. I know that we must be baptized and receive the gift of the Holy Ghost to be made clean and to have a constant guide throughout our lives to help us live like Him. I know I'm a daughter of my Heavenly Father, and I know that He loves me. I know that if I live righteously, I can return and live with Him again someday, just as I did before this life.

How I live my faith

I love participating in service projects, because nothing brings me more happiness than doing things for other people. Over the years I've mentored, landscaped, cleaned, and conducted various activities all over my community. These range in settings from elementary schools, to nursing homes, to parks, to within the walls of my own home. I've spent a lot of time visiting those and talking with those who are in need of extra help, because I want to bring comfort and support to those who need it. Christ spent His entire life being charitable and doing things for others, so I try to follow in His example as best as I can. Right now I'm preparing to go on an 18 month mission trip for my church to Lyon, France. I have never been so excited for anything in my entire life!

Why do Mormon missionaries proselyte?

As I'm about to go and serve a mission, this is a question I've been asked a lot. This is why I'm leaving my home for 18 months and going to go proselyte: In the scriptures, it is asked of us countless times to preach Christ's gospel to every nation. While this doesn't mean that every member is required to serve a full-time mission, we feel it is a wonderful duty to share the beautiful truths of what we know with everyone. Knowing the fullness of the gospel through the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints brings me more peace, comfort, guidance, and pure joy than I could ever imagine. I want everyone to be able to feel this same joy, by coming unto Christ and learning of his restored gospel. Show more Show less
