Hi I'm Ashton

I'm a student studying computer science. I grew up in Utah, and have lived in Germany and China. I'm happiest when I get to think.

About Me

I love to learn. I enjoy learning anything, but computers and mathematics have always been favorites. Throughout high school, I programmed computers and participated in several math competitions. My interests are not, however, limited to such technical interests. I also enjoy writing, playing the piano, and swimming. I have a voracious appetite for good books. My current favorite is Brandon Sanderson's "Stormlight Archive" series.

Why I am a Mormon

There is a deep peace that the Gospel brings to my life. Whenever I become worried, sorrowful, or confused, I remember that there is a God who cares for me. He does not care for me as part of a group of people---He cares for me on a very personal level. He understands my needs, desires, circumstances, weaknesses, aspirations, etc. He's helped me to overcome every challenge I have faced, whether that challenge be spiritual, physical, mental, or emotional in nature. I have felt the Spirit tell me that this Gospel is true. I have not heard a voice, nor seen an angel. Rather, I have felt this deep, calming peace of mind and clarity of thought that I have not found anywhere else.

How I live my faith

I and my dad home teach two families in our ward. Each month we visit them in their homes, share a gospel message, and try to help them in any way we can. My dad and I take turns teaching the lesson and setting up the appointments; one month I'll arrange for us to come over and he will teach, the next I'll teach and he will set up the appointment. Over the years we've helped with leaky window seals, computer issues, clogged rain gutters, etc. Home teaching has been a wonderful way for me to learn how to serve people and to get comfortable with sharing the gospel.

What are some things that tell you there is a God?

Consider the order found in the Universe. Also, consider the perfection of the Plan of Salvation. Who other than a supreme being could cause such things to be? Random chance cannot consistently explain the order of the cosmos. Show more Show less
