Hi I'm Lauren

I'm an English Teacher and love my job. In my spare time, I enjoy sewing and photography. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a recent college graduate with a passion for the Japanese language and culture. I came to Japan to teach English and live on my own for the first time. While it has been a bit challenging, I was fortunate to find a ward close to me with wonderful members who have supported me and helped me in my new living environment. Even though I'm far away from them now, I have a great love for my family. They are one of the greatest blessings in my life as they have taught me to love everyone, regardless of our differences. I am a fan of foreign music, including K-Pop, J-Pop, and some Visual Kei. I have long been interested in film, animation, and all forms of comics. My hobbies include photography, storytelling, sewing, and cosplay.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the church, but I feel that my "conversion" came about in my youth when I read the Book of Mormon for the first time. I didn't want to just follow my parents because I was told to. I wanted to know for myself that the Book of Mormon was true, that Joseph Smith was a prophet, and that I could be with my family for forever. I took up Moroni's challenge and received the answer that yes, the Book of Mormon is true. But in addition, I think most of my conviction came slowly through feeling the spirit both in times of hardship and happiness over my so far short life. Through Christ's Atonement, I have felt his love for me and for others time and time again. I know that through Him, my family can be together forever. He is always there for me and because of that, even though I am an imperfect being, I want to try my best to always be an example of his teachings. That's why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I currently do not have a specific job within my ward/stake. Instead, my personal goal is to always be there for others whenever I can. Everyone on this earth is a divine son or daughter of God, which means they deserve to be treated with love and respect. So regardless of a person's background, I always strive to make people smile and bring a little happiness into their lives.

What is being a Mormon like?

It's awesome! It's one of the most liberating things in the world! I know that sounds ironic, but it is. I have many friends, both Mormon and Non-Mormon. Regardless though, I have always seen that the results of not following the Lord's commandments have always been the same. If you follow them, you are free from the many miseries that come as a result of not following him. Furthermore, you receive many blessings and opportunities you wouldn't have otherwise had. If you don't follow the commandments, you face many issues that you otherwise wouldn't have to face. Because of that knowledge, I can honestly say that I look forward to what my future holds in store for me. I also enjoy being a Mormon because I enjoy sharing the gospel. Due to my interests, where I've lived in life, and also personal circumstances, I've had the privilege and blessing to meet people who may have never have had a Mormon friend in their life. It's fun to see their reactions and makes me happy to tell people about such a joyous message. Show more Show less
