Hi I'm Tyson

I grew up in Utah, in the U.S. I love philosophy, economics, and politics. I'm a mormon.

About Me

I'm A high school senior currently. I love learning about philosophy, economics, and politics. My favorite philosopher is probably Kant ( though I also love Aristotle, Plato, Socrates, John Locke, etc.). I enjoy camping, hunting, and the occasional debate (I've done two years of Lincoln Douglas debate in high school, and two years of Extemporaneous speaking).

Why I am a Mormon

I have studied a lot of in my life; I've studied the categorical imperative, the law of supply and demand, and various concepts of the social contract. But I have learned that nearly anything will fall apart with enough of the right questions. I was born in the church, but I remain in it based on faith because I realize we can't or at least won't know everything by the time we die. Often times I feel like Socrates when he claimed that he knew nothing at all, since I don't know much I act and live based on faith (which is hope). I don't know the church is true, but I hope it is. I don't know if Joseph Smith saw God, or if he was a true prophet but I hope he was. In short I don't know very much, but I do hope for a lot, and it is this hope, or faith that I choose to live my life by. This is not to claim that my faith is unfounded or blind, I have many experiences that back up my decision, but in the end even science is based on faith, and so I act on, and believe based on faith.

How I live my faith

I serve in our youth group leadership. I assist in teaching a few of the members in my church. I am preparing to serve a mission for my church to teach abroad.

What is faith?

Tyson
We believe faith is hope. Often times faith is confused with knowing something or blindly following something. But that isn't true we hope for things based off of personal experiences. For instance once I lost a jacket while hiking and couldn't find it; I said a prayer, looked for it, couldn't find it Show more Show less
