Hi I'm CJ

I grew up in London. I'm a charity director and I study social work. I'm a gay man and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a 21 year old convert to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I was born and grew up in London which is a great place to live. I am studying social work in Belfast, Northern Ireland and plan to work with children and families. I am also a big time animal lover. I was an atheist before I gained a testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ for myself. Three years ago, if you had told me I would be a Mormon today I would have most definitely passed you off as insane.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I have come to know the love that our Heavenly Father has for all of us and I now desire with all of my heart to live with Him again. My first ever contact with the Church was through an advertisement on YouTube. I spoke with missionaries briefly online and even gave them my address so they could invite me to my nearest chapel on Sunday but by then the whole thing was out of my mind. That was when the missionaries started meeting with me. I really loved all of the messages they shared with me and began to read the Book of Mormon and participate in church activities. Some people might think that being gay and Mormon contradict each other. I don't have the answer to all the questions regarding this, but I know that Heavenly Father loves all of his children, no matter who they are. I love this Gospel and I know with all of my heart that it is true. I'm so grateful to be part of an inclusive Church that loves me for who I am. Gay people are welcome in this Church, and I am one of many individual testaments to that. I'm so very grateful for my Saviour Jesus Christ. I owe everything I have in my life today to Him. I've certainly not had an easy ride of things in life but I was blessed to have the Saviour by my side helping me along the way - even when I previously did not know it. Jesus Christ is my friend and he is my redeemer. I love Him and I undertake to serve him with all of my heart, might, mind and strength.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by serving others. Mormons believe that charity is the pure love of Christ. During His earthly ministry, He gave us the perfect example to follow through acts of kindness. I know that by serving other people we are serving God. Prayer has also been a powerful way for me to build a personal relationship with God. I have come to understand that God knows me perfectly and I can do all things through Christ, as He gives me strength.

Why don’t Mormons drink coffee, tea, or alcohol? What is the Mormon Church’s law of health and proper diet?

Mormons believe in living prophets that receive revelations from God. In 1833 God revealed to His chosen prophet that we should not use tobacco, alcohol, tea and coffee. Mormons have also been counselled to avoid using illegal drugs. Mormons also believe that it is important to keep our bodies healthy because we value our bodies as a gift from God. Mormons call this law of health the Word of Wisdom. Show more Show less
